So this is what I know…
What I’ve learned is that I’m not very funny. I’ve developed some cute characters and I’ll continue but not trying to put one out every day. Perhaps what I should think about is making up a story of some sort using those characters….just not convinced that it’s funny enough or interesting enough for a comic….
This one certainly isn’t but I couldn’t help it.
It looks like Upsa needs more coffee. Not all comics are funny every day. Sometimes a thought is what we need, not a laugh. Anyhow I enjoy your flower, pruning sheers, rock strip. Be well, my friend.

The cartoons I enjoy most are not necessarily funny, but they mirror the human condition for me, with all its unexpectedness and contrariness. I’m enjoying yours because of that quality, in both the drawing and the words. There’s an Australian cartoonist, Leunig, who has almost a cult following; he’s brilliant. I seldom smile at his drawings, but I go away from them more thoughtful, a little wiser.

I agree with Arbi. The cartoons I enjoy are poignant or witty or show me some aspect of human nature in a new light. If they are funny, that is lovely but not the most important thing. Upsa shows vulnerability, a rare trait in a cartoon.

I agree with your other noters. I like these because as I said before, Rok sees life the way I do!

RYN It can be difficult to find positive material to read here. I saw you at Tawhiri, glad you popped by for a visit and hope you return. Enjoying the cartoons and going to look at more. I get a kick out of the “rock,SHEERS,paper” instead of scissors. There is humor in that alone.

I’ve gone back and read more. I am now declaring myself a fan of Upsa and Rok. I expressed my thoughts about Upsa in other notes. Rok reminds me of Brian on Family Guy, highly intelligent, serious, but tremendously funny.

Pola, I think the humor in your characters may not be superficial, slapstick humor but more the realistic humor that comes when hard reality meets exuberant optimism (sounds like my marriage…ha!). I can relate to that humor and appreciate it. And it appears others can as well. I hope you’ll continue to develop these characters and their personalities, as it were. Over time, I think you’ll find they are worth a wider audience.
