Des Moines
Heading to Des Moines on Friday for work with MTP. It’s just for three days but New Year’s Eve is my seventh year anniversary with Sweetieman. Kind of a drag to miss either one but we decided work in this case took priority…does it really? On second thought….Well, the following weekend we’ll be in New Hampshire. So a little busy to bring in the new year and I foresee a very busy political season.
On one hand, the buzz and activity is fun and fascinating. On the other hand, I can’t stand the selection of candidates, the values we Americans have adopted and the party wars. In culmination it’s scary. It’s no longer about the issues, it’s only about who is in power. They don’t give a hoot about fixing jobs, the environment or anything just which party is in control. One can only conclude there is big money to be had for the ones in power. Cynical, maybe, but I work so closely to all the politicians that it’s obvious "inside the beltway" what’s going on. It is that aspect that makes me want to run. I get nervous thinking about the Palins, Paul’s and Perry’s of the world having control or even carrying some weight in politics.
Newt in my makeup chair years ago used to plot against Clinton in the most slimiest of ways. I was shocked that he would conspire against the administration with me in the room listening. He didn’t think I understood what they were talking about, just another dumb makeup artist. It was intense and ugly. When Hillary Clinton said there was a conspiracy to undermine the administration, she wasn’t kidding. This kind of thing happened often in my quiet little makeup room….especially during the Clinton’s.
I’m tired of it, by the way, I never heard the same kind of vitriolic plotting or any other chicanery by the democrats during the Bush’s, never. In fact a very high up person privately and off the record said to me that he thought W Bush was a simpleton but respected the office and their own self respect too much to lower themselves to mud slinging or being the party of ‘no’ the way the republicans have been to make Obama look bad. It’s just too crazy out there, it makes me nervous and now I have to sit right in the middle of it and pretend I’m a dumb makeup artist.
oh, well…What would Upsa or Rok have to say about this? Maybe that’s what I’ll be working on on the flight over and back.
Thanks for letting me rant.
I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s all about power and ego and damn the constituents. I’d have a really hard time keeping my mouth shut in your position!

When I read Des Moines, I figured you were going out to vote in the caucus. heheheheheh That conspiracy continues and will until there is no longer a democrat in the White House. It really began with Carter. He was lily white personally, so they manufactured, through their big business buddies, a false economy. If things were that damned bad, then there is no way Reagan could have fixed them that fast. Nope, they rode Jimmy out of town on a rail. Too damned bad you weren’t miked when making up the Newt. That would have been good press. Have a safe trip and be well, my friend.

If it makes you feel any better, it is obvious outside the beltway too. I hold great admiration for your being able to be in ear-shot of all the insider chatter and hold your tongue. Wonderful you have a place to “rant”. Find many things of pleasure to bring to your world this year, indeed work is going to be nasty pickings at moments. Safe travels and enjoy the view. What will Upsa say?? 🙂

Sing it, sister! The candidates are likend to Keystone Cops. As for Newt in the make-up chair, he probably didn’t even see you as a person at all. The High and the Mighty are too good for common people like the citizens of the United States.

In my early career I was in DC often and what an eye-opening disillusionment…during Clinton + Bush admins…and w the Cs in CNY. At Congressional and other events, I snuck out early for the Smithsonian because I don’t have the stomach for “politics.” It might be rarer, but I’m a WYSIWYG person and anything outside of that I think is a waste of time. Such a shame who they think is “dumb” grr.

You have had a singular view of history — surely there are better choices for the Grand Old Party…and the country, than the candidates they are putting before the party members. Really disappointing. Thanks for sharing what you heard and observed.

My gram and I had endless philosophical conversations about is it better to see and know or not. The blue or the red pill. I seem to always choose seeing and knowing, but I never stop wondering if ignorance is bliss or not. It seems DC is a lot like Oz. BUT! There are still a lot of everyday heroes with eyes wide open who push against the fray bit by bit. We do 🙂

It’s so sad, isn’t it, that power is so much more important than truth and the interests of the nation. I think it’s not quite so bad here in Australian politics (well, I hope not) but I think we are moving in the same direction, with an opposition leader who sometimes seems to only know the word “no”

I’d hate to have to bne anywhere near thios political nonsense.. hope you have a safe trip…

You have had an interesting view haven’t you? I agree about simpletons. But however did he get there? It is very scary if we stop to think about it. The trouble is that so many people don’t think about any of it, certainly not in any depth. It’s almost been bred out of people, thinking for themselves.

I read something this week in The Times about Mr. Gingrich stating that he didn’t believe the President needed to abide by Supreme Court rulings. That made my hair stand on end. Eek. Very scary.

Having a mole inside the beltway is useful! The extreme cynicism is the rich protecting their ill-gotten gains. It is said evil triumphs when good people do nothing.
