understood
would you understand
if I said I hear your voice
and sigh,
listening to the rumble of laughter
or how my eyes
light when seeing your name
would you understand –
telling stories
as lives parallel in ways
unseen
while moving forward
willing the days to change faster
than the calendar
allows
I was 32 acting like a school girl
giddy and aware
of everything
about myself
how my hips swish
as I walk,
the way blue becomes
aqua while on the way to gray,
calves toned
the way they haven’t been
in years –
and if I said I carried myself
different, would you
understand?
my bag sits
at the end of my bed,
opened
ready –
so maybe I formulated lists
to think of what was needed
and if I came up with
only a smile,
would you laugh at the
anticipation or settle yourself
in the way I came
to you
