northampton

God it’s been a horrible week. I hate it there. It started off with trying to get the bus to Northampton so i showed up at the bus station at the allocated time and tried to get on the bus, but the driver started shouting a swearing at me because I hadnt pre-booked a ticket. Since when can you not buy a ticket on the bus? He told me it was absolutely appalling behaiour, picked up my bag, threw it on the bus then told me to get on. It ended up that I got to travel for free, but he was yelling at me. I wasnt trying to travel for free, just buy a ticket on the bus.

I then got to the hospital and went to get my key for my accomadation, and got shouted out by the woman because i hadnt said on the phone there were 2 of us wanting accomadation so she’d only brought 1 key out and not 2. It took her 30 secs to get the additional key, but she was so angry about it and yelling.

The accomadation was meant to be really nice and new and en suite, but that was all full so i’ve been put in the old nurses homes. It’s horrible. The kitchen is about 2 miles away, as is the nearest bathroom. The bathroom is crawling with maggots and filthy. The whole accomadation is swarming with cockroaches. One morning I put my shoe on and felt something crawling, and sure enough there was a cockroach in there, then i picked up my bag and there was one in there too. Also its absolutely boiling. Apparently the heating is off, but even with the window fully open (even though you shouldnt do that because apparently the pidgeons fly in) it must still be easily 35oC, and it’s impossible to sleep.

Then the people are all really nasty, no-one’s friendly, I;ve been shouted at by various people throughout the week and i’m still not sure why, apparently just the way i spoke to someone on the phone on switchboard was enough to make the whole of switchboard hate me.

There are no kids on the ward and they expect me to spend my time on the ward hanging round and clerking patients, but that’s normally impossible since their parents arent with them and you cant clerk them without their parents being there. I hate it all. I’m meant to do an on call every week from 4-11pm but i didnt last week because i just couldnt face it, so i’m going be in the shit for that too.

I am dreading going back, it’s absolutely horrific there. I’ve not managed to get anything signed off yet, and i dont see when the opportunity will arise anyway. I dont want to go so much i’m willing to hurt myself so i physically cant go back.

Still, this will only be a 4 day week since i’m on holiday from friday right through the next week. I cant wait.

I also got an email about what is happening after this rotation and i was meant to be going straight back to northampton for another 6 weeks. No way, I emailed and complained and so now i’ll be away in Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe for 6 weeks instead. I dont know if it’ll be better, but at least it’ll be different.

In other news, there hasnt really been any because all there is is work and sitting in a boiling hot cockroach infested room. Paul has gone away to France this weekend so I’ve not seen him for about a month now, but he says he’d gonna try and come round on friday.

Now i just need to find a way to get myself hospitalised so i dont have to go back there.
