Go, Voltron Force!!!

I spent a half-hour in my childhood tonight.

A name from my past surfaced on the TV guide as it scrolled down the screen and I clicked on it without really thinking. By doing so, I subjected myself to an episode of Voltron, and underneath all of my wincing at the poor animation and bad voice acting, there was some serious internal fangirling. I sat there, remembering running home from school, diving in the door, throwing my book bag onto the kitchen table( heedless of the crashing of breakables as it hit) and tossing myself bodily towards the TV all so I wouldn’t miss my daily installment of giant animal robot wars. I would get my ass chewed for the book bag thing every day, but it was so worth it.

That series had everything. Heroes and villains, robots and monsters, a princess in a castle who could also pilot a robotic lion thing, and space mice. What more could a nine-year-old want out of a TV show?

SO, of course, I had to go online immediantely afterwards and look to see if it was coming out on DVD. Which it is. IN BOTH ITS LAME ENGLISH ADAPTATION AND ITS MOST-AWESOME-JAPANESE-VERSION WHICH HAS ALL THE GOOD STUFF IN IT THAT I NEVER KNEW HAPPENED! Turns out, like most things adapted from Japan to Western audiences( ie. Sailor Moon), they edited out all the really kewl bits, like people actually dying and torture and other goodies.

I must have it. In its original unedited version. It will be released by Media Blasters on May 27th. I will have it. It will be mine.

If for no other reason than so I can remember a little girl with a crush on a giant lion robot.

Peace(and anime geekness), all.

I have a thing about nostalgia. See, some friends and I thought it would be really cool to revisit Voltron… until we saw the preview. Good god is it hideous. I have fond memories, but they’ll stay exactly that; memories. I also have a thing about any anime/animation produced before about 2000-2001. But happy viewing! I hope you enjoy it!

Good for you! I have never heard of Voltron (being much older than you, grasshoppah!), but I remember having the same reaction to “Jonny Quest.” I had a major crush on his buddy, Hadji. lol! Dunno if you’ve heard of the old Jonny Quest series–it was way before anime–but trust me, I know exactly how you feel with regard to Voltron. 😀

LOL Good for you! Relive your childhood. Only it’s better when you do it as an adult because you can actually buy stuff like this!!
