Leandra’s Reference Letter

To whom it may concern:

I would like to recommend Leandra Villermet as a candidate for the Fessenden-Trott Scholarship. Bharti, you must state here the length of time and the capacity at which you know Leandra.

For the past two years Leandra has been volunteering with the International Association of Human Values (IAHV), and the Art of Living (AOL) Foundation, both international humanitarian organizations. In July 2006, she began volunteering at the North American Centre nearest to Shawinigan, QC. She committed herself to three months of service consisting of office work, cooking, and house keeping. There she proved to have the ability to work both independently or as part of a team, exceeding time expectations and accomplishing tasks thoroughly.

Leandra has since extended her personal boundaries as a volunteer. In early 2007, Leandra spent four months assisting with post-trauma stress relief programs offered to victims of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, LA. Leandra was trained by the IAHV and quickly became certified to teach a 15-hour stress-relief course titled “Breath, Water, Sound” which is offered free of charge to communities worldwide. Leandra overcame adversity quickly as she was asked to teach university, high school and elementary school faculty, staff and students, as well as 911 operators, police, hospital staff, and the impoverished.

While in New Orleans, Leandra was appointed coordinator and facilitator of two youth programs titled “Kids for Kids” and “Teens for Teens” which were both free programs offered to youth coping with post-trauma stress. Her responsibilities included designing both programs, meeting with faculty/principles, and cooperating with schoolteachers to facilitate the programs within both public and private schools. Within that setting, Leandra came to demonstrate exceptional courage, leadership, and teamwork.
In 2007, Leandra brought her training and knowledge back to her community in Halifax. Since then, she has organized and taught a free stress-relief course for the Halifax community of people with disabilities. She has managed to continue her exceptional community service with the IAHV and the Art of Living foundation while simultaneously attending University. Presently, her volunteer activities include working with a team to organize and promote stress relief courses, events, and charity fundraisers.
Leandra’s extraordinary efforts have been highly regarded and cherished among each community in which she has served. As an extremely capable, conscientious, and dynamic individual, she is highly recommended for this generous award.
Yours truly,
