10. Biggest Disappointment of 2008: Once again the winner is… Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. Makes the Star Wars prequels look better by comparison. Watch the South Park episode where they show the kids reaction the new Indy flick and that’s pretty much how I felt after I watched the movie when I left the theatre: violated.

11. Biggest Breakthrough: Robert Downey Jr. This was his year… two amazing movies and one of them might land him a handful of serious awards.

12. Most Bizarre Film of 2008: Disaster Movie. Should have been given a different title since it only made fun of one disaster movie which was a big disappointment for me. I was hoping to see spoofs of Armageddon, Independence Day, Cloverfield (in more detail) and even Deep Impact… and we got was spoofs of not films of this year, just spoofs of their trailers.

Happy New Year to you too! I haven’t seen any of your top ten films yet…

I’m REALLY looking forward to “Doubt” – I stage managed the play a couple of years ago and it is a brilliant, brilliant piece of writing so I look forward to seeing what Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman can do with it.

You know, they’re saying there’s a new phrase to replace “jumping the shark”. It’s called “nuking the fridge.” Hehe. I had a good laugh over it.

Happy New Year!

while you agree with me that “the ruins” is the best horror film of the year, you think it had the worst premise? lol. it’s loosely adapted from the novel by scott smith, who also wrote the novel “a simple plan” was based on, and that film got more respect when it came out. my fav robert downey jr movie of the year was the one no one saw, “charlie bartlett”.

RYN: i’m interested in seeing “frost/nixon”, but i think the main conceit of the film, that frost outplayed nixon to get him to admit involvement in the watergate cover-up, is false. if you watch the original interviews, nixon never quite admits it, and since he was paid for the interview and got gross participation, it was in his best interest to deliver the “goods” anyway.

and worst title : “in the name of the king : a dungeon seige tale”, lol…or is uwe boll disqualified from all “worst” lists bc he’d just hog them all, lol. =)

Dad agreed with you on The Dark Knight. He and I both nearly bust a gut on Tropic Thunder, though. Mom and I just put on Momma Mia!, so hopefully it’s as good as you say! Hope you and yours have a wonderful New Years. *hugs*

I would have to disagree on the top ten…tropic thunder! No way. That was the biggest waste of 2 hours of my life and completely horrible. I kept wondering when the moving forwards and get better.

January 14, 2009

re: The Ruins. Isn’t that the same premise they used in The Happening? I don’t really get people attacking KOTCS for using Aliens. I mean, the other movies didn’t involve plausible macguffins either. That and I think aliens are a touch more likely than Holy Arks dispensing supernatural juju. Also, it’s Spielberg. You know, the ET, Close Encounters guy.

I’ll be knocking out my own list soon enough (I just have to watch number 2 on your must see list before I finalize it).
