Too close for comfort…

Last night I had a rather tramatic experience, and no this is not about Brokeback Mountain losing the Best Picture Oscar to Crash. I had a bit of an accident while I was walking back from work. And when I say accident, it means I was hit by a car when making the trek home to my new appartment.

Now before everyone freaks out, I wasn’t seriously hurt and was able to walk the rest of the way home without further incident. I’m a little banged up and a little sore this morning, but besides that I’m doing all right. It all happened so fast that it actually took me a while to get my head wrapped around what had actually happened.

While I was walking I got to a street light, but at the corner was an enormous show drift. I had a green light and a walk light lit up, which means I had the right of way. Yet as I was stepping onto the road I noticed the car as it sped up to the corner. She looked in one direction to make sure no cars were coming, but didn’t look in my direction, and just sped out into the street. I did my best to jump back onto the sidewalk/snow drift. Even though I managed to leap out of the way, the side of the car still hit my leg and my forearm bumped of the car’s windshield. I was pretty much bumped back onto the sidewalk/snow drift, but was able to hop back up rather quickly.

I basically stood up and looked back at the car that had stopped. Because I had gotten back to my feet so quickly, the person assumed I was all right and peeled off. I was a little dazed, so I didnt’ have the time to whip out a pen and write down and plate numbers and what not. After shaking a little snow of my pants, I just continued home and told Leah what had happened. She was less than impressed and seemed very understanding as I was a little sore as the night went on.

I’m doing all right at the moment. My right leg and knee is a little sore and my wrist hurts a bit, but besides that I’ll live. Had I not noticed what the driver was doing and jumped out of the way, I would have been completely run down… so this could have been much worse. Right now I’m glad to still be in one piece, so no need to worry. While I’m a little rattled, I’m going to be just fine.

But I have to get back to work. Everyone have a good Monday and I’ll try to be around to leave a few notes.

Glad you’re okay.

*hugs* That’s horrible. 🙁

Hey! I’ve been in a random entry mood today and found your diary in that way. Go figure. Anywho. You got HIT by a CAR?! Oh man, I’m sorry!!!!! I’m glad you aren’t too badly hurt!! Hope everything’s alright otherwise. Note back if you feel the need. ♥

glad you weren’t seriously injured, be careful out there!

RYN *laugh* Thanks. I know I’ll stay and I totally have the money. I just feel like I never write anything worthwhile anymore.

Just one of the dangers of being a pedestrian in a car-hogged society. I’m fortunate I’ve never actually been hit but I’ve come too close for my comfort.

Fortunately for you the snowbank was there the cushion the rest of your fall. Glad the night didn’t have a worse ending.

March 6, 2006

Oh my goodness. I hope you are OK. Sometimes those injuries can come back to haunt you.

March 6, 2006

geez! i’m glad you’re only a little banged up. careful!

March 6, 2006

Holy crap! That’s nuts! Glad you’re okay though. Still, that was rather rude of the lady to speed off like that. Even if she did see you get up, she should have at least had the decency to – oh, I don’t know – ask if you were okay. Some people these days are as rude as they are careless… But, you’re okay. And, that’s really the most important part.

Did you go to the hospital? Get the car’s license plate number? Call in a report to the cops? Glad you’re all right!

Someone hacked the DM’s diary (and others too), wrote an entry in the DM’s diary that he did so, with a link to his own diary where he *sort of* explained how he did it. I read that entry, but then his diary was deleted and the entry in the DM’s diary was gone. After that, OD started acting weird.

That is crazy. I am you are alright and so quick on your feet =)

Aloha… Very scary to read… must have been even more scary to experience being hit… Glad that you are okay… and as you wrote… it could have been much worse… Aloha oe………………….

So she just assumed you were ok and kept going? Brainless. She’s probably from my area. No actually if she was, she would have stopped and inspected her car for damage, then, upon seeing that you weren’t badly hurt, carried on about how you damaged her car.

I’m glad you’re OK…

I know what it is like to be hit by inattentive drivers. Almost happened a second time this last Sunday but I saw the car inch forward just a bit and was able to get the drivers atention before she pulled out any farther. RYN: Yes, we need more Kirby Puckett’s in baseball. Sosa and McGuire didn’t last long, and of course couldn’t live to the standards of “The Minnesota Twins’Great Bambino.”

The f-cker sped away? Goddamn sonofabitch. I’ve been hit by a car twice as a pedestrian, neither resulted in any injury. Though about two weeks ago, if I hadn’t jumped back, not one car, BUT TWO, both doing about 35 would have run me down, WHILE I was in the Goddamn crosswalk on a bright sunny day! Come to think of it, I’m still a fuming a bit over that last incident. Arseholes…
