The holiday that was…

I didn’t have the kids for Christmas this year and since I’m an atheist, it really didn’t matter that much to me anyway. Leah and I have been splitting the holiday with one parent taking the week with Xmas and the other getting New Years with the boys. This year I had the kids for ringing of 2014, so that left me without a place to spend the big holiday on. Thankfully for me, I was asked to spend the holiday with a friend of mine that I’ve been hanging out with a lot lately.

I’ve known Margaret since she was very young, over thirty years ago. Her parents and my parents were best friends, so we saw a lot of each other over the years, until I moved away to attend University of course. Over the summer of this year, Margaret got back in touch with me and we’ve been spending a lot of time with one another. A lot of time. Are we formally dating? We haven’t really decided yet but it seems that way to everyone else.

So because our parents have known each other for so long, Margaret’s Mom invited me to spend the holidays at her home with her family. It was very nice of her to invite me and it was quite a bit of fun. It was what one would expect from a holiday; turkey, presents and watching movies and holiday specials on the tube. There were not many Doctor Who fans in the house so I used my PVR and recorded the show and watched it the next day when I returned home. Problem solved for that one…

I took the boys on the 27th and I have them until the 5th of January. For new year’s eve, Ethan stayed up and I even offered him a bit of the bubbly for him to try, but Ethan doesn’t like to drink anything that has bubbles in it so he passed on it. Jon passed out around nine but Ethan managed to stay up and welcome the new year in with me. First time he’s actually stayed up, which is just another sign of how much older he’s getting.

So now it’s 2014… and is it just me or did that previous year just fly right by? Feels like yesterday we were only celebrating the start of the year past and now it’s gone in the blink of an eye. Let’s hope this year hangs around a little bit longer so that we can enjoy it that much more.

So that does it for the first entry of 2014… hopefully if things go well, this will be the first of many. I want to be more active on OD so if the site behaves, I intend to write more and be more active leaving notes for all my favs.

Happy new year everyone.

Peter
