Some notes and rants about/for Notliberal…

I try to not let him get to me, but on occassion it just happens. Notliberal posted another entry to further prove what an arse he can be on Open Diary. He got his knickers in a knot because Harvard released a study saying that the US rates very poorly when compared to other civilized nations that support their families when it comes to maternity leave and other programs that support the workers in the workplace. He went on a huge rant saying that the US was right not to make companies pay for employees to stay home and raise their kids for the first week or two, and spewed out a lot of venom to anyone who disagreed with him. I couldn’t help but respond to his entry, with the following comments:

I find it amusing that you assume that government forces companies to pay for thei maternity leave. The truth is these governments don’t make companies pay any of it, they do. I’ll give an example, up here north of the border… the government pays for a year off for Mom to stay home and raise the little one till he/she is ready for a daycare like environment. No companies are forced to foot any bill at all, just like healthcare and other supplied services.

Also, letting Mom have materinty leave to stay home and make the kid priority #1 prevents that whole ‘breast feeding at work’ thing from becoming an issue at all. There’s no incidents here since by the time the kid is 1, they are off the tit or getting the milk pumped into bottles.

As for Dads staying home, I took a paternity leave so my wife could go back to work cause she didn’t want to stay home for the full year. Government allows us to swap so I can stay home on their dime and she goes back to work for whatever time is remaining. I didn’t mind staying home and being the home maker for a few months, and enjoyed having time to bond with my kids. Something wrong with that?

While I understand your whole ‘comapanies shouldn’t be forced to do anything like that’ rant, if governments offer people a chance to stay home and take care of the family, who are we to judge them for doing so? I happen to think these programs are good cause family should be considered a #1 priority, and truth is government save money by letting Moms and Dads stay home, rather than having to give out support in subsudies for daycares that are rather expensive to pay for these days. That’s one reason why the whole maternity leave thing is so popular with the guys on the hill, it’s actually cheaper than helping Mom’s pay for daycare and in the end is better for the kids to be raised by their parents during their more impressionable years.

I’m kind of surprised by your whole business is better than family kind of attitude here. Families and citizens have rights as well, and they shouldn’t be stamped out just to allow fat cats to make more profits. There is such a thing a compromise, but when companies refuse to budge or even make an effort to meet people halfway, that’s when Government has to step in and legislate things and force them to fall in line.

If companies gave a rat’s arse about the people who help them make their profits, governments wouldn’t have to step in and force them to. But the fact is many big companies only care about the bottom line and that’s why the government has to step in and do something… because they’re incapable of having enough heart to do it for the right reasons.

So to blame the government for a mess that is likely caused and made by ignorant companies who give no rights or privledges to their employees is a tad absurd. If people were treated right in the first place, no one would cry and moan to the government calling for legislation to change things.

And the truth is, the other civilized nations are not in debt because of these programs. Canada has had a surplus budget for almost a decade now, so you can’t say that these programs are not affordable. It’s what happens when governments use their budgets to help people, not wage wars.

Truth is, I shouldn’t have left this note at all. Not only will he ignore what I had to say, despite it’s logic, he’ll use my poor 4am up with the kid grammar and the fact that I have him banned from my diary as his ammunition to mock and make fun of me rather than debate the issue. He does it everytime I leave a note… which is why I rarely read or leave notes anymore with his diary. His ignorance is outstanding, and is the reason why many good Americans get such a bad rap. He’s also a glaring example why why Christians get sucha bad rap as well. He’s no where near what I would call a good Christian or American. Every nation has their bad apples, but if Notliberal wants to know why so many people hate his nation… all he has to do is consult a mirror.

I hate to be this judgemental about anyone. I really do try to find the best in people, but Not just gets on my last nerve. His ignorance is just so frustrating, and I really feel for people who have to deal with that kind of person in the real world as opposed to reading it on this online forum. I don’t think I would be able to stand being in the same room as this person without fighting an urge to break his nose with a Zidane like headbutt. Feeling like this tell more about me than it does about people like Not. I shouldn’t be this harsh about anyone without getting to know them. I realize that people are not always like their diary personas. People are more likely to be bold when typing from an anonymous soap box. For all I know Not is really good person who works hard and raises a good family. If that’s the case, good stuff… but I really hope that Not is nothing like his OD persona in real life. If he is than the people he interacts with on a daily basis truely have my pity…

Ignoring what he can’t answer or sidestepping and pouncing on grammar/typo’s is a favourite trick of his

The way I look at it, until companies start doing what is right because it is right instead of doing what is right because it is required by law, we will have to legislate what is right. It’s because they refuse to accept social responsibility that they’re being forced to do it legally. It’s like a curfew: people who are responsible enough to come home on their own don’t need one.
