Slugging through a rough patch…
I’ve hit a bit of a block with the novel. It was bound to happen, and I was kind of expecting it to happen at least once or twice this month. I’ve just got to ride this out and wait for my second wind to come in and hopefully that will help me get the rest of this finished. I took advantage of getting a paycheque over the weekend and took this non-writing time to so a little shopping. I decided to spoil myself and the kids since I haven’t been able to do that in a while. I bought a new toy for each of the boys, and for myself… I went to a local store and bought some used CDs. I’m thinking some new music might get the creative juices flowing, and help geting the writing back on track. Here’s what I got:
Chris Isaak – Baja Sessions: This album is actually very accoustic and extremely mellow. I used to have this album but lost it when I sold of my entire CD collection in 2002 back when I was selling a lot of stuff off before my big move to Korea. This is one of my favorite albums, one of the few albums that are not instrumental that I can listen to when trying to concentrate on working or writing. Isaak’s version of ‘Only the lonely’ on thie album is simply heartbreaking. I can really beat the crap out of ya… it’s awesome.
Jim Brickman – Unspoken: I’m a huge fan of Mr. Brickman’s music, and even has his Greatest Hits album. I got this one because the title encouraged me that there would be less guest singers than the average album. Never have too many non singing, music only albums when trying to write something…
Josh Groban – Awake: I’ve always liked Groban’s work, and this was an album that has always been on my must have hit list. After listening to it a few times I have no regrets. It’s a great album.
Russell Watson – Encore: I have his first album, ‘the voice’ which I think is one of the best albums to come out this decade… and this encore album is pretty good follow up. There are some mainstream pop songs, some rock classics and then some classical opera songs. Truly a real mixture of all genres. This one really goes all over the place…
So with the new tunes, and some other things I’ve been using to pass the time… I’ve been trying to clean the slate. Kind of like start over again with a new canvas when I got back to the writing. My mind felt a little cluttered and that can sometimes be a bad thing when you’re trying to write sometime, anything onto the screen and get the word count flowing. I hoping my new distractions will help my mind wander enough to make that happen. I’m going to sit down and give the novel another honest try this afternoon. Talk to everyone then. Have a great hump day everyone…

I love Chris Isaak, good luck!

I love Chris Isaak too, although I’ve never heard Baja Sessions. . And Jim Brickman – any piano player, really. I want to get some Phillip Glass for Christmas.
