Peter on reality TV?

I got the following email on Friday, regarding a ‘Reality TV’ show that I applied for a lifetime ago:

It has been quite a while. I have been out of the country for a few weeks. It’s nice to know that you are still interested. Some differences have been sorted out and an official kick off date will be announced soon. Meanwhile, the search for the star of the show is still on.

Basically, what will be required of you will be to live your life for a period of 30 days in a regular British apartment and suburban- neighbourhood. The aim of the show is to investigate how quickly a foriegner is able to adapt to conservative English life.

You must be prepared have cameras watching your every move except at such times as you want to do some private stuff, like taking a bath. And at the end of every week you are interviewed by the host of the show for a progress report sort of.

All the details that you require will be outlined in the contract document if you are eventually selected by the screening commitee.

Any other info you need? Contact me.

To be honest, I’m conflicted on how to respond to this letter. Part of me wants to do it, cause I think it’s an interesting premise. Yet when I originally applied for this, I was working at a center I hated as was willing to do anything to get away from it, even Reality TV. Now I’m at a better center, a new home and new circumstances. Chances are I would be more likely to turn this down because things have changed.

They are only looking for one person for the show, so I’m sure they’ll find someone better than myself, so I doubt I’ll have the chance to turn them down. I just thought it was cool to hear back from them. While it’s a tempting offer, I will stay here with Leah and the kids and keep working on the novel instead. The only thing that could pry me away from the good center I’m at now is money. The original posting claimed it was a ‘high paying show’, and while I’m sure people differ on what that is, if the number they come back with is high… I would at least discuss it with Leah.

But for now, I’m not too interested. So chalk this up as an interesting timbit, but something that will likely never happen. If I was still on the island working at the old crappy center, I’d be all over this in a heartbeat. But where I am in my life right now isn’t right to do something that kind of crazy thing. But it’s nice to be remembered this long into the selection process.
