Nobody listens…

I swear this world would be a better place if everyone just listened and heeded to what I said every now and then. My parents left yesterday for the South Carolina for their annual Labor Day holiday by the beach. They have a friend who owns a condo by the beach and do this every year and always have a great time. Two days ago, I was talking to my Dad while Mom was doing the packing, I told him to avoid Carolina this time out, saying that Ernesto is going to land there. Dad denied this, saying that Ernesto is going to his Florida and that he would be fine. Anyone wanna guess where the Hurricane landed, that’s right… Carolina. Hopefully one day Mom and Dad will realize that sometimes I might offer advice that might be helpful every now and then.

That leads into another story from the “I told ya so” archieve. When my little brother and his wife had their little girl, they told everyone to give them some space. They didn’t want anyone’s help, but being in that exact position three years ago, I knew better. I told Mom and Dad not to take things personally, and sit back and wait. I gave her a baseball metaphor, saying that she needs to approach this situation like a relief pitcher sitting in the bullpen. Just sit back and enjoy the game, and when the team needs you… you’ll get the call. I had a feeling that when it came down to crunch time, no one would respond since a lot of people have lives and won’t have too much time to donate to their cause, and that Grandma in Tennessee (who is technically retired) would be the best person to call for help. I told my bro that he would be a fool not to ask for her help cause Mom is a nurse, and I don’t know about you but that’s the kind of person anyone can trust with their kids. The call came a few days ago… and after their Carolina trip, Mom is flying out to Toronto to lend eveyrone a hand.

While my track record is far from perfect… I wish sometimes people would just listen and things would be a little easier. I’ve also been right concerning a few things going on in other parts of the world, but I’m getting tired of banging my head against a political wall. I watch the quagmire in Iraq and forsee something ten times worse. The eventual civil war that will break out over there is going to make what happened in the former Yugoslavia look like a small conflict. No one wants to believe it, but despite the good intentions if there ever were any… this mess was not only unfortunate, but avoidable. And just incase you don’t think it could get any worse… the world can go even deeper into the hole if Americans are foolish enough to allow the Repubs to retain power in the house this coming November. If the people don’t wise up and give the house back to the democrats… everyone will pretty much get two years of well deserved hell. If you thought the first six years of putting up with what is clearly the most corrupt administration in history, just imagine what kind of crap Bush & Co. would do without any restraints and a deadline… it’s enough to make one afraid, very afraid indeed. There’s even a part of me that belives Bush would even consider dumping the three term rule or appoint himself President for life if he thought he could get away with it… let’s hope both him and his staff doesn’t think he can. At this moment, I’m not willing to put anything by them at this point and this late in to their last term.

Hmmm… where did that come from? I guess since I’ve got some more time on my hands, I might spit out a few more political rants every now and then. Might not be popular with everyone, but that never stopped me from doing that before. I hope everyone is having a good one this fine Friday and I’ll be around. For those who are travelling for the labor day weekend, have a good and safe trip. Take care…

Bush getting a 3rd term sounds rather scary! YIKES!

Consider this scenario- Iraq devolves intoutter chaos, and ends up being merged into a coalition with Iran (not an improbable scenario)and some idiot president and his party-majority Congress declares an actual war over there. It would almost have to go nuclear, even if that idiot president can’t pronounce the word. Pakistan would quit pretending to be a US ally, and we’d involve India to put Pakistan in their place, meanwhile unleashing the Israelis upon Syria and Palestine…

ryn: the Bills? THE BILLS? You are dead to me. Just kidding, but dude? THE BILLS? When I first came here we had no NFL at all. I had to have my brothers tape the playoffs and Superbowl for me. They started showing it the last few years, but we only got the Monday night game, which was fine I guess since I don’t have all the time in the world to watch football. But I just checked the the schedule and they are showing the first game next Thursday. Two games on Sunday. And two more on Monday. Not sure I can even watch all those.
