Moving in the right direction…
I had a fun weekend with the boys. They both enjoyed their time with Dad over the weekend, and I sent the back to their mothers already bathed, and with a bag full of clean landry so she doesn’t have to clean them or their clothes for school today. I do my best to make things easier on their Mother, not for her but for them.
As I look around this place, my apartment is a complete disaster. Anyone else I know would freak out at this mess but I love it. If you’re a writer, a messy apartment is a good thing. That means you’re writing. If you know a writer and their house is clean, it means either one of two things: they have a maid or they are struggling to write anything.
Rather than fight the boys over the computer, I dusted off my old laptop and starting writing on that last weekend. This laptop is only good for writing as it’s a tad old, but that’s all I use it for anyway. So while Jon was playing games on pbskids.org (great site), I was at the kitchen table working on one of my books, while Ethan sat there with me either playing with his modeling clay or using his Nintendo DSL which he just got for his birthday, along with a few cool games.
This was a good weekend for writing. I’m two full chapters away from finishing my Atheist non-fiction manefesto. It’s looking very good… and while I’m dying to just chuck it online and move on to the next project, I actually think this one is good enough to try to professionally publish. I will send out some queries and see if anyone in the non-fiction field bites.
Another book I’m working on is a suspense fiction novel that I’ve been writing on and off since 2008. This is one of those books that I like but can only work on when I get into a certain mood. Last weekend I got in that mood and wrote three chapters just on Saturday alone. This novel might be moving at a snail’s pace, but it’s still move in the right direction. This suspense novel also passed the 200 page mark over the weekend. I will likely finish this one quickly, do a quick do overs for mistakes and then post it on Smashwords for $3.
Right now my goal is to finish both books by mid, but the end of October at the latest. I plan to participate again in November’s ‘National Novel Writing Month’ and hate starting something brand new when I got something left over. I’ve already got a plot in point form and character sketches made for this year’s Nano, but I have not written a single word of the novel in adherance with the rules.
So I’m pleased to say things have been going all right. I’ve been in a bit of a writing grooze and I’ll try to continue that trend for as long as possible. Things are good here, but I’m going back to one of my books now. I hope everyone has a great Monday!
Peter
