Monday School: Religion is a bad parent

Welcome back to Monday School… still your “Rational Corrective To All That Nonsense They Tried To Teach You Yesterday!”

Today’s Lesson: Would you really accept how religious people talk to you if the subject they were discussing wasn’t about God?

To start of this interesting topic, I have a video presentation for today’s class. This is a brilliant video, posted on you tube by an Atheist whose work I have enjoyed often and found great inspiration from. Take a gander:

I find this narrator’s view of Religion to be quite accurate. When people of ‘faith’ preach their alleged good word, they don’t speak to you but rather at you like a parent would to a child. I think this is one major reason why quite a few people don’t appreciate how organized religions speak: Do as I say, don’t question us and just do it!

If anyone tried to speak to me like that, they’d be told where to go and it wouldn’t be Kokomo.

If you want to present ideas, speaking down to someone and even threatening to send them to hell if they failed to appease their Gods isn’t going to win over anyone. If anything, it will make you look like the raving, crazy loonie you are.

That part of the person trying to preach on the train reminds me of a few incidents like that I’ve witnessed myself. I’ve been on a bus, or even at a bus stop, when people of ‘faith’ try to preach or hand out small books of paper to push their gospels onto those who are not interested. I’ve even had people from Jahovah Witness walk up to my door and push their faith on me.

Religion is like a bad parent, using the boogie man to scare the kids into staying in bed and not trying to sneak off for a snack or to watch TV. It’s under the bed so stay in bed and sleep or he’ll eat you! Such childish antics, especially coming from one adult to another is an insult to our intelligence and one very good reason why all religion should be not only condemned but also stripped of its power and tax exemptions.

Another part of this video that I have myself used is the hearsay. I’ve often told people that holy books that cannot be verified are not evidence, they’re hearsay. They wouldn’t even stand up in a court of law cause there is zero evidence to back up their claims. This video nicely details why hearsay is not evidence, another reason why I thought it would be great to share it with the class.

This was also another favourite part of mine, when the narrator details that being on our knees or thinking ourselves greater (and standing higher) than others are both the wrong place to be. If we are go grow to our fullest potential, we need to treat each other equally and with the upmost respect. We are to be ourselves and we cannot do that if we are humbled or inflated. A part of the video that really hit home with me.

Religion really doesn’t help us aspire to greater things, it humbles the human race to serve and worship deities that do not exist to rob people of their rights and a hell of a lot of money. Religion the greatest con ever performed on the human race, and

Religion according to comedian Bill Maher is ‘the ultimate hustle’ and he is spot on with this description. Why can’t God just defeat the devil? It’s the same reason Batman can’t kill his nemesis, the Joker: then there’s no story.

If God gets rid of the devil, and he could because he’s all powerful, well then there would be no fear. Therefore there would be no reason to come back to Church and refill the collection plate.

There you have it ladies and gents; the ultimate hustle.

Filling people with boundless fear about Hell and the prospect of salvation and going to Heaven makes them give up their free will and willing followers of the church authority. Brilliant setup that has worked for centuries.

Religion is a poison that kills people even in ‘civilized’ countries. Bunch of ****s if you ask me.
