Monday School: Judge not, Judge not…

It’s Monday! Time once again for Monday School, STILL “The Rational Corrective To All That Nonsense They Tried To Teach You Yesterday!”

Today’s Lesson: Why do Christians judge people when the act itself is clearly forbidden in the alleged holy bible?

Let’s start with the passage in question which comes from Luke 6:37, which stats the following:

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

I don’t know about you but that’s pretty straight forward. Unless you want to be judged yourself, don’t do it to other people. The claim allegedly comes from God/Jesus, whoever, but it’s in the damn book but for some reason, people just ignore it. You don’t have to go far to hear Christians tossing out judgements right left and center. Is there something in the book I forgot to see that gives people the right to disregard previous passages? I’m not sure, but if they’ve been specifically asked not to judge people, why does it go on?

I had a conversation with a devout Christian who hated homosexuals and thought they were evil and going to hell. I asked him why he was judging them since it was something God preferred people didn’t do as per the bible. His response was to quote the bible, stating that he was allowe to hate gay people because God judged them as wrong and sites specific examples like Leviticus 18:22. I responded to this by stating that God said it was wrong for you to judge people, that passage is God judging people, because He’s God. Luke 6:37 seems more like a ‘do as I tell you’ command rather than a ‘do as I do’ kind of passage.

It was an interesting debate as just because God judges people in the book doesn’t give people free reign to disregard Luke 6:37. Their complete disregard for that and many other rules set for by their own God is just another example of how out of touch with reality organized religion really is. People have accused doubters of cherry picking and state that reading the rest of the book will answer all our questions, which is of course bullshit.

People try to side step Luke and say that other parts of the bible give them grounds to judge people, but that’s just splitting hairs. It’s just another contradiction, like saying there are other parts of the Bible that allow you to kill even though it’s specifically not allowed according to the Commandments. The constant contradictions is enough to give even the most level headed person a splitting migraine.

This was one thing I told someone why trying to explain to them why I do not follow the rules of a specific organized religion: their own followers don’t seem to abide by them, so why the hell should I? I could give numerous examples, but this one hits home the best because it’s something a lot of people do, but they are strictly forbidden according to their own holy book.

Luke 6:37 is actually one of the better passages in the book that I usually disagree with most of the time. Just a shame that all the passage I do happen to like are the ones that are often ignored and disregarded the most by people who claim to follow it religously. It is very hard to find a single Christian who hasn’t ignored or blatantly disregarded this passage. The whole world is chalk full of judges, juries, voters, employers, teachers, etc. which are all constantly judging others. Perhaps that is why Luke 6:37 is considered the mother of all ignored verses.

The only word that I can use to describe this outrage is hypocrisy. Just one of many examples of the kind of hypocrisy that runs rampid in every organized religion. While that might be a bit judgemental of me, I feel no need to apologize because I never swore to follow a God that forbid it. Therefore I’m free to do it whenever I please without looking hypocritical. Christians however, are not.

Hey, don’t hate the player… hate the game. Then again you can’t even hate the game because you’re not allowed to judge.

But let’s hear what everyone else things about this: Do Christians take certain passages too lightly and should stop judging people or can they cherry pick which commands of God to follow and which to ignore?

Does it really matter what christians think and why? Arguing with them is about as meaningful as trying to dig a big hole in dry sand. I find it amusing that when I go to Atheist functions, eventually about 90 percent of atheists will sit around talking about christians. As far as I am concerned the only thing that matters about christians is their actions which might affect me. Their thoughtsand reasoning is about as worthy for consideration as the cackling of a chicken.

The whole passage is a nonsense. As human beings our superior brains almost instantly and unconsciously assess and judge thousands of different factors each and every day. The passage basically means “you WILL be judged and you WILL be condemned’ but it is bull**** Christian nonsense hidden in a moral sounding quote.
