McCain worker admits to fabricating mugging story
You know this campaign is getting really ugly when people are making up stories about fictitious muggings and using them to possible generate racial tension, sway election results and possibly incite riots. Not only has the victim of the alledged political mugging recanted her bullshit story, but now she faces formal charges. It wouldn’t surprise me of this ‘Campaign worker’ was asked to do this by the McCain camp… they are this desperate at this point. Huffington already confirmed that McCain and Palin ‘have already spoken’ to the woman… so would that be much of a stretch? Especially now that she has confessed to making it up?
I wouldn’t mind her seeing the maximum penalty for trying to pull this crap during federal election, but maybe the DA will offer her a deal. Maybe she can plea out and score a deal if she points a finger to any one else in the McCain Campaign who helped her plan or set this up. If that were the case…then this could get much uglier for McCain & Co.

Police: Campaign Worker Admits Making Up Story
A Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Ashley Todd confessed to making up the story & is facing charges
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter “B” in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
Ashley Todd, 20, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be.
According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd’s story that differed from statements made in the original police report.
Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: “Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do.”
No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.
The investigation is continuing as officials determine what charges will be filed.
I doubt anyone in the campaign suggested she do this. If they had, it would’ve been done properly, so the story would’ve been harder to see through. People doubted this as soon as they saw the picture. More likely this was an isolated incident from one moron who just happened to be a McCain supporter. But it’s important to remember there are crazy people on both sides.

And to continue the hockey thing, I’m rooting for Montreal. For them to win the Cup this year would be pure magic. A Cup in their Centennial year? And their 25th at that? Continuing their record of winning at least 1 Cup in every decade? Yeah, they just have to win.

I doubt the McCain campaign instructed her to do this. Come on Peter, this level of partisan pettiness is exactly the same level as all the right wingers yesterday who when the story first broke screamed that the Obama campaign had ordered their guy to carve her up. As long as left and right keep stoking these ridiculous fires we’ll never get anywhere. We need to heal rifts, not widen them,if them Democrats ride rough shot after an Obama victory how is that in any way different from Bush and the Republicans?

Yea, I don’t think she was put up to it by anyone either. It’s typical that she would try to blame it on a black person though. Good thing there isn’t racism anymore, it’s time for these black folks to just “get over it” *eyeroll*

I dunno…they didn’t vet the Joe the plumber story before breaking in on the debate, so why would they make sure the made up mugging story was airtight, or even would pass investigation?

I think she must be a very disturbed young woman, and I feel sorry for her obvious mental issues. I agree that if any particular party had put her up to this, the story would have been harder to see through. However, if they did and she *still* agreed to it, she must have issues of some kind. I wouldn’t agree to let somebody carve up my face unless my kids were dying or something.
