Making a comic book?

Whenever I struggle to write, or hit a serious writer’s block, one thing I do that usually helps get me out of a funk … is fan fiction.

What I like most about fan fiction is storyline, characters and setting are all taken care for you… all you have to do is write. I’ve been writing fan fiction for the better part of seven years, doing storylines of favourite comic book characters as well as stories linked to favourite television shows and movies.

I’m a regular writier on one of the bigger fan fiction sites on the internet (fanfiction.net) and I havea quite a few followers on that site. My stories generate over 2000 hits on a slow month, and as many as 3000 – 5000 hits a month if I bother to post updates of popular stories.

One of my most popular fan fiction stories I have posted to date is baeed on the Television series “Stargate Universe”. I haven’t posted an update on that story for over half a year, and yet it gets the most hits every month, and the most requests for more chapters.

One of my favourite fan fics to write is Batman. A complex character, I usually jump between the comics and the Nolan movies. I get a lot of hits on those stories and a lot of emails asking for more posts.

This week I got a new email with a request that I’ve never received before. Someone liked one of my Batman stories so much that he emailed to ask for my permission to storyboard it. That means the person who sent me the email wants to turn my short story (it was only 500 words) in to a comic book. It’s a Batman short story, so it will be really cool to check out in pictures.

I don’t own the characters, so I assume this is a non-profit doodle… but I wrote back to the person, telling him that I would be honored to see something I wrote was turned into a comic book. My only condition was that he had to email me a copy so I could check it out.

Whenever this is sent to me, I think I will post it here in my diary so everyone can check it out. I’m very excited to see it and getting the email literally made my day.

Should be very cool to see when it’s finished. I’ll update you guys on it when I hear more.

Have a good Tuesday!

Peter
