Love is in the air…
I know it’s a day that has been materialized by card companies, and people are pressured to do something this one day instead of everyday when it counts… but I can’t help it. I love any excuse I can get to do something nice to Leah, and I don’t care what holiday or anniversary it is… I try to use any excuse I can to so something nice, not just on Valentine’s Day. I got what I wanted today, as Leah picked up a copy of the Rickard Dawkins book titled ‘The God Delusion’. I’m already a chapter into the book and am quite impressed already. I’ll be posting a few entries about it as I read more.
The last few years, I had been a tad cheap with this day. and I know Leah isn’t the kind to judge people based on that, but since we are doing a lot better this year… it was time to make up for that. I had a decent plan so I decided to get a few things for her and surprise her with a few others. The plan was to trick her into thinking she was getting one thing, and then surprise her with a few others. I bought her a new handbag, and then inside that handbag was several other gifts and a card. But the cool part is that inside that card was another surprise… so it was a double wammy. It did the trick because when I gave it to her, she was genuinely shocked. So here are some pics of the great stuff I got her for V-Day:
(Here’s the handbag, a really nice leather one too!)
(V-Day isn’t complete without a stuffed toy… right?)
(a perfume I saw her gushing over a while ago. It’s good to keep note of these things)
(A romance novel by Nicholas Sparks. I think she’ll love reading his stuff…)
(A cute shirt, the humor of which was not lost on her…)
(Chocolate is required too, and yes… the rose is chocolate as well!)
(Last but not least, concert tickets to see Nelly Furtado at the Air Canada Center in Toronto!)
Leah’s reaction was priceless, and she said she felt bad about only getting me a book… but I went out of my way to let her know I really wanted that book and am very happy with it. I reminded her that while gifts are nice, they’re not the end all be all of this day. The best part is we now both have the day off. Originally she wasn’t supposed to be here at all, but we’re in the middle of a nasty blizzard and all schools and daycares are closed… so Leah has the day off, with pay! So we’re both off and can share the day together.
Truth is, as my readers already know, I had been planning to take Leah to a concert for a while now so getting the tickets today was an added bonus. She was super excited about it, and the cool thing is one this day (April 4th) we’re going to make a day of it and go in early to Toronto and see the city. She’s never really had a chance to look around. I’m going to save a few dollars, so I can take her to the Eaton Center for a little shopping, go our for dinner and maybe take her to the top of the tower before taking her to the concert. It will be a great day and she’ll have a lot of fun.
So to everyone else, I hope you have a great day. Since I’m not working, I’ll be around and share the love in the form of many notes. Until then, everyone have a good love day!
Peter

They are great gifts! Well done. I don’t know many guys who would dare buy a purse for their wives/girlfriends/whatevers…but you picked a good one. And I’m picky, too. 🙂

What a great series of gifts! She’s a lucky woman! And a belated RYN: can you believe those tickets took 5-1/2 hours online to get? Ticket sales for the Red Sox are totally, completely insane.

ryn: Do you think Canada should quit that part of the War on Terror?
Warning Comment
Peter, the difference is that Afghanistan is a NATO effort, recognized by the mainstream as a legit and key front of the conflict. NATO has been there since late 2001. For Canada to abandon her NATO allies after contributing so many troops, to put it bluntly, would be irresponsible. You shouldn’t make Afghanistan suffer to prove a political point, to get a jab at a lame duck president.
Warning Comment
If Canada is upset with the NATO effort in Afghanistan, it should first recall that the first time NATO ever called upon Article 5 (the mutual defense article) was after 9/11. You didn’t have to send in troops, but Ottawa did. If Canada is that upset with the NATO effort there, perhaps they should quit NATO. Otherwise, I think it’s too early to give up on the Afghans.

Those are some lovely surprises. 🙂 ryn: I’ve asked him many times to write a “guest” entry ever since he left OD, but I guess he’s just not at all into it anymore because he doesn’t want to. Kinda weird.

Ah, you gotta spoil the lady. That’s just the way it is!
