Jindal Made Up Story About His Role In Katrina

What a surprise, another Republican unable to tell a story without it having more holes than swiss cheese. Last year McCain was caught lying about what happened during his POW days in Vietnam and about his wife meeting Mother Teresa. Today we have Lousiana Governor and GOP Presidental hopeful Bobby Jindal has now admitted that his story about how during Katrina, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a local sheriff who was battling government red tape to try to rescue stranded victims was nothing more than pure, Grade A bullshit. The moment the story was told, several websites started to vet and look into the honesty of it and were finding details that conflicted Jindal’s tall tale.

Turns out, during that moment when the boats were sent out Jindal wasn’t in that office when the decision was made but in fact in another town. It seems very cold if you ask me to tell a story about someone who isn’t around anymore to set the record straight. Regardless, after many online news sources started to question the honesty of the story… one of Jindal’s own staffers admitted that the story wasn’t completely accurate and that he wasn’t there as he had indicated. In other words, he lied. So there is no debate here, his own people have admitted that Jindal told a false story to make himself look better during his pathetic response to President Obama’s big speech this week. McCain already got his ass handed to him last year because everything he said was vetted and verified to make sure it was completely true and any untruth’s uncovered… like that X in the sand story that was ripped off from a Russian book, were quickly slammed until their aides admitted it was false. You’d think that future GOP Presidental hopefuls would have taken notes to what happened to McCain last year and chose not to use bullshit stories to prop themselves up.

Turns out Jindal didn’t learn that lesson from the 2008 Campaign, and as a result his campaign might be over before it even begins. He’s been the laughing stock of politics all week long, and this is one mistake that I doubt he’ll be able to recover from. The fact that Jindal is being compared to Kenneth (the page) is a PR disaster that is sinking Jindal’s chances more and more each day. This is like watching an track athelete get disqualified for a false start. This guy might be out of the race before it even began. Will the other potential candidate wannabes take notes and learn from it? We’ll have to wait and see…

As a side note, when Jindal came out and started spewing out this story about Katrina, I didn’t worry about whether it was true cause I knew a lot of people would look into it. What I coudn’t help but think was how familiar this sounded to Rudy Giuliana and his failed 2008 run. Jinda’s inability to talk policy without bringing up Katrina reminded me of the fact that Rudy the fact that he could say anything with out making a reference to 9/11. Is Jindal going to be that kind of Candidate for 2012? The guy whose sentences only consist of three things: a noun, a verb and Hurricane Katrina.

Sometimes i think they need to change the dictionary definition of liar to “politician”.

I read an interesting theory which stated the problem with these Repubs is that they’re skewed older, and politics just isn’t the same game as it was when they learned it. With the plethora of 24-hour news shows and blogs and “gotcha!” websites and whatnot out there today, you can’t simply lie, cheat, or steal and expect to brazen it out… people gunning for you will look for the facts….

…and moreover will have a platform to spout them from. A younger politician like President Obama understands that; hence his insistence on transparency and accountability. The older politicians who have not kept up with technology and the fishbowl it’s created for politicians still think they can break the rules and cover it up… only, of course, to find out it’s a different world out there.

Meh. Largely a non-story. He’ll get mocked for it for a little while, then people will move on. By 2012, people won’t care that he made up a story to prove a point, any more than people cared about Clinton claiming to come under sniper fire, Obama getting the camp his uncle was involved in freeing wrong, or McCain possibly maybe telling stories that didn’t happen to him.

With the McCain thing, the guy still spent 5 years in a prison camp, and he still got tortured. I say, let the guy make up a few stories; he earned it. With Jindal, he was simply trying to illustrate that government bureaucracy often creates problems – a valid point. I disagree with his overall premise about government being the problem, and the lie means even that premise won’t get attention.

But either way, by 2012, people really won’t care that he made the story up.

T: You’re correct. But things like this help shape people’s impression of a candidate. If he starts getting the reputation of being fast and loose with the truth, like Hillary for example, it’s certainly not going to help him in ’12.
