Jack Bauer is the man…

(Just in case people are worried, I have posted no spoilers of the upcoming four episodes of 24…)

Usually weekends at the center tend to be a little slow, so to pass the time we’re allowed the surf the net (post entries and notes, for example) and also watch movies on the DVD rom on our computers, as long as the films are not too over the top, and within reason. So watch movies like ‘V for Vendetta’ or ‘Pirates of the Carribean’ but leave really violent horror films and movies with nuidity at home to be sensitive to others around you. Since my brother has a massive DVD collection, I’ve been catching up on a lot of films lately. Then there are the bootleg movies that are always going around, those are popular on the floor as well.

For example, 24 is a very popular show with many of my co-workers… and was going around over a week ago that the first four episodes (the first two airing tomorrow) were already online and circulating on the internet. I didn’t believe the rumor myself until Wednesday past when a co-worker gave me the first four episodes on DVD. To say I was stunned is a mild understatement. I’ve been dying to see new episodes of 24 since the fifth season ended with such a twist last year, and there I was with a copy of the first four episodes five days before they’re set to air. This was no brainer, I used the down time at work to watch all four episodes. I can only sum up my reaction to these episodes with one word: WOW. The best four episodes of the show I have ever seen.

I’ve loved what I’ve seen of this season so far because somehow they manage to do the same storyline but make if feel fresh and still on the edge like it was last season. I didn’t think it was possible but there is more character, more storylines and still great acting, especially from Sutherland who is pretty much locking himself in for another Emmy in September. The sixth season gets off to a more insane start than the last season did and that was one hell of a season. Episode 4 also happens to have a bigger body count than all the episodes of the fifth season combined and ends with a shocking conclusion that will have fans screaming to see Episode 5 on Jan 22nd. This season is going to rock, and if you like the show… I strongly recommend tuning in on Sunday and Monday to catch these episodes, they are top quality.

Speaking of television, I’ve been missing a lot of shows lately that air in the 8pm Eastern time slot. I’m so used to primetime not starting until 9:30pm because of timezones, now I’m missing the start of shows while putting Ethan to bed at his usual times. Chris and I have decided to combat this by upgrading our account. There is a current promotion with the cable company we’re with where we can get a DVR for $9 a month for the first year.

I miss having the chance to tape anything I want anytime I want so I’m all for getting it back in here. With the new center offering overtime that often causes me to get home long after primetime shows start, a DVR would be a good way to keep up without having to worry about running home to see something. I loved having one on the island and I know Ethan misses having it so we’re going to get it again…

So here I am at work, little slow today… but I’ll be around to post notes and maybe a few more entries. Until then, later!

Peter

24 is quite possibly the greatest show on TV. Jack Bauer IS the man.
