Grandma finally heads home

It’s been a busy and furious week here on the island. Mom was supposed to fly out on Wednesday, but we got our first major snow storm of the winter that day. We got blasted on Wednesday, and not only was her flight cancelled that day, but it was also cancelled on Thursday cause it hadn’t settled down by then. Mom wasn’t happy because she tried to call and get an earlier flight to beat the weather but the airline ignorantly said everything would be fine. Then the airport was shut down for two straight days. Fine my ass she said a million times as she watched three feet of snow build up on the ground. After a few cancellations, Mom finally mananged to fly out this afternoon and boy am I glad she’s gone.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love my Mom very much. Yet as we both started to reach the two month range, we started to annoy the crap out of one another. She felt the same way and it was good to finally part ways with minimal damaage done. She was an enormous help to Leah and I over the last month with the new baby and for that we will be forever grateful. But Mom and I had always clashed when I was younger and moving away from home had done the trick as I left the next and gave us both a little space. My recent emergance as an Atheist hasn’t impressed her much either but she’s gonna have to live with it cause I certainly can and Leah has accepted it as well. Yet the best thing I ever happened to the relationship with my mom is the 2000km I put between use when I went to University.

It’s nice to have the comfort zone re-established again. I’m sure she feels something a tad similar after putting up with my sorry butt for the last two months. We’re going to see her and Dad again in March for the wedding so we’ll have a nice 50 day breather before sharing the same space again. But since that will only be for a few days, it should go smoothly. In all, it was really good to see her and I did like that fact that she got to spend a lot of time with her Grandsons. I know Ethan enjoyed having her here for a while and have no doubt he’s gonna miss her a lot. Ethan will definitely be happy to see her in March when we meet up with them in Toronto. Should be fun…

So here is to Grandma 24601 and her invaluable contribution she made to our family. I’ve got a few ideas to thank her for all the hard work and crap she’s had to put up with. She was a real trooper and Leah especially appreciated having her there to help out the first few weeks with the new baby and Ethan. Hopefully by tonight, her and Dad will be together again and have a good night. They deserve to have a good night out and hope all goes well for their trip home back to Tennessee…

Random noter.. Funny I noticed the name Leah..That is my name and what is even more odd is my ex was a Peter.. weird! glad that combo of names worked out for you.. 🙂

I remember going nuts driving home from an IU basketball game with my dad during a snowstorm. A 2.5 hour trip took 4 hours. I was about to kill my dad I was getting so angry. Glad to hear your mom mae it home ok. Sounds like the storm was a bitch.

Putting the distance between me and my mom helped a lot. We try to keep Rex’s mom at a distance, but a little hard when we live in the same town. Anyway take care! 🙂

It’s usually nice to have guests, especially helpful ones. BUT it’s ALWAYS a relief when they leave. My mother came to live with us and I was her caregiver before she died. I’m still not over it, sad to say.

RYN: Ah the beauty of living in Canada. I could never do it, I hate winter.
