Gift ideas and the World of Warcraft…

Leah is usually very good at buying gifts. Rarely have I ever complained about anything that she’s bought for me. I’m not picky, as long as it’s a sincere gift I don’t care how big or small or how much it’s worth. When it comes to material gifts, I’ve really gotten into a ‘thought that counts phase’. Leah this week is stressed for time, so she doesn’t want to look around for something to get me. I can really understand that, so when she asked for me to just tell her what I would like… I was more than happy to help out. I asked for her to get me a book that I’ve been dying to read for the last few months, a book by Rickard Dawkins titled ‘The God Delusion’. She was a little surprised by this selection, but it’s a book I’ve been eager to read and injest.

I actually have both Tuesday and the big V-day off this week, so I’ll have plenty of time to look for gifts. I’ve got a good idea of what I want to get, and will fetch it from the malls tomorrow with the kids on my day off. What I will do later that day is take pictures with the digital camera so that everyone here knows what she’s getting before she does. That will make for a cool entry…

When I’m not shopping around tomorrow to spoil my wife rotten, I’ll be relaxing with the computer… playing World Of Warcarft. Yes, it’s true I’ve gotten a tad hooked but in my defence, I’m not getting carried away with things here. I’ve been playing only no more than an hour or less a day. As a result I’ve been leveling up a lot slower than everyone else, but this is a good thing cause I don’t want to play the game too much and get bored with it too quickly, which happens when I play these kind of games too often. I’m actually happy that I don’t get too much time to play because only getting a little time here and there actually makes it last longer and is more enjoyable than just playing non-stop until I can’t get stand it anymore. So limited exposure to the game is better for me to enjoy this game long term, for me anyway.

As for the game itself, I have two characters that I’m doing rather well with. My higehest character so far is a level 19 Paladin named ‘Dameos’. This is the first character that I started with, and I’m a fan of holy knights, so the Paladin was the obvious first choice for me with this game. Here is a picture of my Paladin:

Pretty snazzy, eh? He’s doing all right, but requires a little more work. He’s got some strong weapons and a few killer spells that make him rather handy to have him around. He’s part warrior, part mage and part preist all together. The best of a few worlds, and an effective fighter. He can wear the heaviest armor and also gets a mount when you reach level 40. Pretty sweet character and one I look forward to building up a lot more over the next while.

This is a picture of my level 12 Mage. I named him after two wizards from popular books. Althalus is a wizard from a David Eddings book, and ‘Gandalf’ is of course that wizard from the JRR Tolkien books. So I took one part from each name and came up with ‘Gandalus’. This character is a lot of fun. His spells are amazing and while his armor is crap, he packs a massive magical punch that makes him effective to have around. Teamed up with a warrior or a paladin, this mage can do a log of damage when shooting fireballs and arcane missles from behind the battle. As I said above, he’s up to level 12, which isn’t too bad but I’m only working on them when I get a little bored with my Paladin. When he gets to level 20 he’ll have the ability to teleport to any city he wants at will, and that will be a fun option to play with. But for now like I said I’m taking my time and not rushing to complete things too quickly. I’m not in hurry to get him to the top level as soon as possible, and they’re moving at a nice enough pace. But to close out the entry, he is a picture of where I left each character when I logged out to go to work this morning.

Gandalus is in the Dwarf city known as ‘Ironforge’. He’s there buying and selling stuff and completing small quests over there to level up a few times. It’s a nice place to level up and do some things for the short guys up there. The snow background is really cool too. As for my Paladin, Dameos is in the forest territory that belongs to the Elves. He’s doing a few quests over there… actually a lot of quests over there cause I’m trying to get him exalted with their race so that I can get a pet cat for a mount. Whether or not he gets it is up in the air, you have to do a lot of quests to get exalted in that game… pretty much every one they have. I can do it cause a Paladin on a sabercat sounds pretty damn cool!

Someone asked me at work what was taking me so long to level up with my characters. Well, when I’m not at work, taking care of the kids, eating or sleeping, I might have 30 or 40 minutes a day if I’m lucky to play the game. In other words the reason why my guys are not screaming up the levels is simple: I have a life!

I wish I had time for a computer game between my 750-800 pgs a week of grad school reading. 🙁

I’ve never played World of Warcraft, but when people write about it I always think it sounds fun. I’m only any good at strategy games, though. Also, The God Delusion is well worth reading. Dawkins is my new hero.

Why are your paladin’s calves bigger than his thighs? That’s so wrong.

My dad and brother both play WoW, but I just never got into it. The brother’s got a level 20-something Blood Elf Paladin, and a level 62 Undead Warlock. Dad’s got a level 63 or 64 Undead Priest, and a level 62 Tauren Shaman. So I don’t play WoW, but I’m around it enough to know what’s going on. I did play War3, where I used Orc and Undead. We’re a family of Horde players, I guess.
