Getting ready for the big move…

Some good news to pass on. I won the auction for Leah’s dress and made the payment via paypal that same day. So Leah’s dress will be incoming very soon, and she’ll be covered for the wedding. I’m very excited about this purchase and I think Leah is as well cause the dress is a real knockout (see previous entry for a picture). I also managed to get online and buy a new suit as well so both of us are not covered for the wedding. We already have a suit for Jonathan, one we saved from Ethan’s first Xmas… so he’s got something to wear too. Now all we have to do is find something for Ethan to wear and we’re all set. With Airline tickets already purchased and ready to go, it’s nice to have the wardrobe out of the way as well… so all we have to worry about now is getting to the wedding and having a good time.

I’ve already made the decision to be the designated parent, which means I’m not going to drink. Maybe a glass of wine with supper, but that’s about it. Let Leah take full advantage of the free bar and let her go nuts. I’m going to be alone for the next two months after Leah and the kids take off for Tennessee, so I’ll have plenty of chances to drink with the guys and what not. Leah is going to get smashed, but I’ll be able to stuff myself like a turkey with the food anyway, so everyone will be good. We have a hotel booked that is just down the street from where the reception is… so I’d say about a few songs into the reception, my brother Chris (who doesn’t drink) and I will make an early exit with the kids so they can crash for the night. Then Chris and I will likely watch a movie or two on the hotel menu or just relax and talk for a while since I haven’t had the change to shoot the shit with him in almost two years. Chris is looking forward to hanging out with his nephews, and since he can’t drink… hanging out with me and the kids which is nice cause I will need the company that night.

But before we get to that, we need to move into the new appartment first. I’m going to take a look at the new place on Tuesday and that formally ask for the keys. Leah saw the place on Friday and pretty much liked what she saw. In other words my viewing is pretty much a formality… the decision was already made. So barring any complete disasters, we’re going to take this place and move into it on March 1st. I got the day off (got an extra vacation day accepted) so that I can be there to watch over the movers and to get things settled. Well, the goal will be to get the kids settled. Leah and I can do the rest the next day or so. It’s going to be a tough move, but I got some friends that are going to help me out. I got one bud who’s volunteering to let me use his car to move all the breakables over before the big day… that way I don’t trust the sensitive stuff to the movers. It’s going to be a lot of work cause we got a lot of crap… but once it’s done, it shouldn’t take too long to settle in and get stuff stashed away.

So the next few weeks are going to keep us very, very busy. We’ve got the big move and the wedding in Toronto to get out of the way, but once that’s all done… it’s smooth sailing for me and I’ll be able to rest and relax for the next few months while everyone is in Tennessee. So while I’ll be all over the place for the next few weeks, there is a light at the end of this tunnel and I’ll have plenty of down time to catch up on my beauty sleep when it’s all said and done. So I’ll just have to keep cool and let things slide if they get a little chaotic. The key is just to get everything moved over and I’ll basically we should have everything tucked away by the time we have to take off for the Wedding. I’m excited about the move cause I’ll be closer to work and I’ll be able to take a 15 minute stroll home instead of having to run for the buses all the time. In the summer that will makes things so much easier. The fact that we’re getting an extra bedroom for the new baby and the rent is still the same is a bonus as well.

While no one likes to move (me especially), I realize that this is the best thing to do. We need the extra space and Leah likes the place so that basically means its a done deal. While it’s on the 4th floor, which will be a lot of stairs to carry the kids up, I could use the exercise anyway so I’ll lose a bit of weight this summer just by hitting those stairs all year. The last time I lived on the 4th floor of a building with no elevators… that was my second year at the University dorm. That summer I lost 38 lbs. and I never really worked out at all, it was just all stairs. So carrying the kids up and down will always be a real work out, and I’ll be able to trim up and bit and I’m planning on getting a pass for the gym next to my work as well… which I’ll use to tone up. So while I hate to move, all these pluses are overruling any objection I could come up with. It just makes sense to accept the change and just make things happen. I think Ethan will be okay, as long as he gets a bigger room (which he will according to Leah) and since Jonathan will get his own room… we’ll have a little privacy as well. So all this to look forward to will make the move a little easier to handle. Not too much, but it will be enough.

Have a good weekend people, and I’ll be around.

Turst nothing you can’t afford to disappear to the movers. each time we’ve used movers, something valuable (and small) disappeared. It’s a good idea about using the stairs for exercise- studies show that lots of exercise isn’t nearly as beneficial as a little exercise each day, cardio-wise.
