Food, family and other fun stuff…

We’ve been in Ontario for a little over three days now and we’re still in the process of settling in. It’s kind of hard to do that when your furniture is still enroute and not here yet. We’re still living out of suitcases and what not. The kids are doing realy well, and seem to enjoy watching their favorite shows on the new 35 inche television. Ethan however is suffering from DVR withdrawl. He keeps running around asking us to put on specific shows on command, but we can’t cause we can’t record shows at this moment. Plans are when I get stable work, I’ll pitch in for a DVR to solve a lot of television conflicts that have occurred so far.

Things are all right though, and while we’ve had a few tense moments… we’ve chalked that up to change and having a rough time adjusting to a new city. We’re very close to some ideal locations, with several stores and places to get food only a stone’s throw away. When the weather gets a little better, I intend to walk around and get more aquinted with the area and find out what I can take advantage of in my surroundings and make the most of my location.

The job search is going well. I’ve sent out over a dozen inquiries and think that the call backs will start rolling in on Monday when people get into their offices. There are many that are similar to the work I was doing at the center, and I don’t mind doing that again. It would be a fresh start with a new place, and hopefully for better pay and more of a chance to go up in the company. If offered that, I wouldn’t hesitate to do what I did before again. The fact that Leah will be making more here and there is more stuff to do in this part of the world with your money and time, working at a center again wouldn’t be as tough this time around.

Today my cousin Joanne and her daughter Alex and son Nicholas came over today for supper and it was nice to see them again. Joanne is Jonathan’s Godmother, so she is super excited to see the kids here in Ontario. This is one cool thing about being in this exact part of the province… we’re so close to my family and they are all eager to be actively in our lives and hang out as much as possible. They are all sweet and it means a lot to us all that they want to be there for us.

One cool thing about being back in Ontario is that I got to eat stuff that I was dying to try again because it was never available on the island. There are a lot of fast food chains that are not there, and I do agree that in a way it was a good thing, but this week I had a chance to take care of one craving that I had been suffering from since the moment I knew I was coming home:

My brother thinks I’m sick to love this stuff, but when I was at a mall yesterday with my Dad getting stuff for the house, I had to take a lunch break and get my hands on those two bad boys. It had been over half a decade since I last ate Arbys and this was an amazing drought to end. I had two Beef N’ Cheddars, curly fries and a root beer for lunch yesterday, and I’m good for a while now. This was a good treat and it was just a shame Ethan wasn’t there to share. He would have loved the curly fries. I had Harvey’s earlier this week, and my goal is to hit Taco Bell for the first time in years by the end of December. Oh yes, before the year goes out… Peter will be going south of the border.

So that’s all from here. We’re still unpacking but things are looking good. The boys and the cat are doing well, and seem to be taking the change a lot better than we first anticipated. Things are good here in Steel City, and I hope everyone is having a good weekend and I’ll try to post a few more entries if or when I get the chance. This comptuer is being shared by a lot of people until mine arrives with the rest of the luggage, so I’ll post whenever I can. Until then, take care…

Peter

that’s why we came back here too, family, it was one of our best, (and at times worst) decisions ever, I wouldn’t do it any other way

Just looking at those arby’s sandwiches made my mouth water! We used to have an arbys just five miles from my house, but not anymore…. Now the closest is at least 30 minutes away… a long time to drive for a fast food place, ya know? I miss it though, we used to get it all the time. Why did I think your parents lived here in the states? Tennessee or something I thought?

Also, it is great your kids will grow up with your family around… There is nothing like aunts/uncles/cousins/and especially grandparents. Nothing like it…. Jamie
