Election Day In Canada…
I don’t know about you, but I love elections. I don’t care if it’s here in Canada, or in any country for that matter. Democracy floats my boat and I’m all for people voting for their new leaders and I like watching results and especially taking part whenever I can. Today Canadians took to the polls after being called to a ‘snap election’ less than two months ago, and I did my part and voted a few hours ago.
Took the boys to my polling station and cast my vote. I like taking my kids out to vote, and Ethan was more active this time out, asking questions and stuff as well. Interesting thing is there were a few more options on the ballot than I was expecting. I had three more parties to pick from than I was aware of. I didn’t even know Canada had a Communist party… and no, I didn’t vote for them. Thanksfully there wasn’t a line up at the time when I went to my polling station and I was able to get in and out in just a few minutes.
When I got to my booth, my choices were the following: Pro-Conservative, Liberal, New Democrat, Green, Marxist, Libritarian and the prementioned Commies. Seven parties to pick from, aren’t I spoiled? When it was all said and done, I cast my vote in support of the New Democrats and dropped my ballot into the box to make it official. That takes care of my vote for until the next snap election, which could be at any time if we have another minority government.
Basically, I know it’s going to be another minority… and that’s fine. For me, the best case scenario is a coalition government between the Liberals and the New Democrats if they can muscle up enough seats. They almost had enough last time… and there is word the Greens might pitch in if they get any at all (that’s a big if too). If the New Democrats pull another rabbit out of their hat (like take Ontario like the did in 89) and pull off a miracle… you won’t be hearing from me for the next week. I’ll be partying hard for the next several days, but the odds of that happening are slim, about the same as me winning a lottery.
Like I said, a coalition right now is our best bet to make sure Harper is not the Prime Minister again when it’s all said and done. Will it happen. We’ll have to wait and see. I’ve done my part… let’s see what the rest of my nation does.

The biggest strike against the NDP winning Ontario again is how badly they did last time. It’s been almost 20 years, but they still haven’t entirely recovered. My biggest problem with the NDP is Jack Layton. I don’t like him, and I don’t trust him. Under Layton, the NDP has been all about attacking everyone else, and that really bugs me.

I hope it works out for Canada. Ever since I read about the electronic voting machines and, being in the software industry, knowing how easy it is to skew the results, I always feel a dread when an election takes place. I alwasy wonder if the Re-fascists are trying to steal the election. I actually volunteered as an election officer to see the entire process at work, it is pretty safe in California..

Just for the record: I called it. Conservatives won, and there’s already talk of Dion being ousted as Liberal leader. Expect the Liberals to pick up a few seats next time around – with a different leader.

It wasn’t so much that Dion was a bad choice. He just wasn’t intended to win. His job was to put the Liberals back together. He’s pretty much done his job, so now the Liberals will choose a new leader, someone who will help them pick up some seats next time around.

Yeah really, I’m sick of people like Ann Coulter saying things like “The Democratic Party is now the only group in the world that doesn’t understand the threat of muslims, and so on and so on..” ryn: And sorry to disappoint, but I’m afraid Evil Dead doesn’t make my personal cut. Hopefully the final five don’t miff you too badly.
