Chugging along…

August is always a slow month for me. After an event as exhausting as the Blogathon is over, it’s usually takes a few weeks to get back into the swing of things. But I’m trying…

Work is going all right, which is good considering how frustrated I was getting last month. There were some points where I was one foot out the door and ready to run. But the reason why I work (kids/family) is worth staying and taking anything… and I am fairly decent at the job I do. My problem is I take things too personally. I am working to distance myself from that but it’s a work in progress. I take a lot of stuff in life personally but that is a good and a bad thing. I take issues that need talking about passionately, but sometimes too much of anything can be too much for others. It’s something I work in in the real world and online but at least I’m aware of the issue and am willing to work on it a bit.

Another piece of good news from work is that I applied for a higher position within the company. It’s a position that I would not hesitate to call a ‘supervisor’ position, and while I am not in control of the call center floor, I would be that manager that is left in charge should the real boss take of to do whatever it is he/she does. Close enough for me, so I fired in a resume and a killer cover letter and hopefully I’ll hear back and get an interview for the position. I think it would be a good promotion, as I’m not afraid to rule over others and do the extra paperwork. I’d be a tough, but fair boss… taking things on a case by case basis. But I’m putting the card in front of the horse so I’m just hoping to hear back for now.

The new position (if I got it) wouldn’t increase my pay, but the reason why I applied for it was with the hopes that I might use my new power to change my schedule which would not only help with our babysitting issues and even one that might be daycare friendly for Jonathan when we successfully conquer the wait lists. It gives me more flexibility, and right now that is more valuable to me than money, but only by a little.

Besides that, I am making plans for future events. Aug 29th is my 11th Wedding Anniversary, and I’m trying to hook up a sitter so I can take Leah out to dinner and movie. There’s an amazing Italian place down the street from us and I think going back there would be nice. And then a movie of her choice would be a perfect ending. I got pick Star Trek the last time we went to a movie, so her choice this time out.

Next month is two birthdays. Leah’s 33rd is on the 21st and Ethan’s 6th on the 14th. So I’m going to stash money from each cheque leading up to that so I can suprise them both with some cool gifts. Not sure yet, but I’ll find something cool that will open some eyes. My b-day is the next month (Oct 28th) but I’m beyond the whole, gimmie a gift thing and have more fun with a relaxing night, little TV and what not. A little peace and quiet is always a great gift…

So work time is almost done. I hope everyone had a great hump day and I’ll be back later with more to share. Until then, take care!

Peter
