Change of plans and 3rd place…

Mom isn’t feeling too well, so Leah and I are gonna have to postpone our 10th anniversary plans for another night. Things like this happen, and we’ll be all right. The good news is that I have the weekend off so I think Leah and I will take a walk to the mall and hang out there and let her get a feel for her new surroundings. So with time off coming, we’ll get a chance to hang out and just relax, which will do a lot of good around here. Leah needs to get out and get some air, so that will be good as well, with or without the kids.

Today was the Mortal Kombat tournament, and I managed to fare rather well. There were sixteen participants, and we had an eight bracket elimination tournament. I mopped the floors with my first two opponents, rather quickly and harshly I might add. The third match was a challenge, and combine a good opponent with bad control handling… I was eliminated in the semi-finals. I managed to win the consolation match to finish in 3rd place and win a small gift certificate for Tim Hortons. I don’t drink coffee so I gave it to my Mom, who loves the place. It was a lot of fun, and just the fact that we got to place Mortal Kombat at work on a projection screen was kickass… in more ways than one.

It was also a good chance for me to meet my new co-workers and hang out with them, which was my plan for the event as well… the 3rd place finish was just an added bonus. It was a lot of fun, and well worth staying after work for. How many times can you say that you and a bunch of guys at work got to play Mortal Kombat on an X-box at work, while on the clock? That’s super cool, but the bosses were cool with it as well because it was a slow day (fridays usually are there) and it raised a lot of money for a good cause. Everyone was a winner… except for those who got their spines ripped out in the first round. 🙂

Edit for Shuk: Since I wasn’t allowed to use created characters for the tournament, I practiced all week with the characters provided by the game in the main menu. Turns out the one I excelled with best was Johnny Cage…

While he’s no where near the most powerful character, he’s fast and during the tournament it was good to be quick on the draw and beat people to the punch… especially with those lightning fast num-chucks! If I wanted power, I could have gone with someone like Scorpion or even the big fuckers like Goro, but I would have sacrificed speed in return for the ability to drain a lot of power with one hit. Turns out speed was the best strategy to go with as I helped me make it to the semi-finals. I was able to slap my opponent in the head three times and uppercut his ass to the ground before he was even able to lift their weapon. I also managed to take advantage of the ring out fatalities too… much to the amusement of those watching.

With the weekend off, now I can just settle in and relax. I have a six day stretch starting on Monday. but I’m good with that cause I’m gonna have the 24th, the 25th and the 26th off after that stretch. That seems all right with me, so I can put up with the six days easily. So that’s all from steel city for now. Hope everyone had a great Friday and I’ll post again soon as the weekend progresses. Until then, take care…

Peter
