Blogathon # 30: Roy Halladay
Time Posted: 11:34pm EST
It’s a sad day to be a Blue Jays fan.
What started off as a hot start to the season is slowly fizzling out to be much to do about nothing. Looks like the Jays are going to finish the season in 4th or possiblly 5th place this year. I really hope that result brings the firing of the Jays GM who should have been shown the door two years ago!
As if things couldn’t get worse, there is an issue with Roy Halladay.
Now Toronto’s best pitcher, possible one of the best in the game right now… wants out. By the way it looks on various trade websites, it looks like that trade is going to happen. I just hope the Jays get something out of it and not ripped off which is possible when you have a bad GM at the helm.
If a contender wants the one of the best pitchers in baseball… they had better be ready to give up at least their top two prospects. Halladay is signed through the end of next season and will anchor any rotation. JP had better get at least four great prospects in return for Halladay or the fans will riot and call for his firing.
So far it looks like the Jays GM is asking for a lot, and that is good. Don’t give away your best chip and don’t take crap offers. I’d hate to see Roy go, but if he has too… get top value for him.
One more thing, do NOT trande him to a team in the AL East. It’s bad enough to have to give up your best pitcher, but don’t give him to one of the teams you have to face the most every year. That wouldn’t be met well by fans. I prefer the NL, let him prosper over there for a while.

He is the best pitcher in baseball… him or Lincecum, and I give Halladay the edge because of how consistent he has been for years. I watched a 2-1 pitchers’ duel between him and Jeremy Bonderman at Skydome in 2007 that Halladay dominated for 10 innings and won. I told my friends we should go the next day if we wanted to see a Detroit win because they weren’t getting it versus Halladay, but nobody listened to me. Give a few years, and Justin Verlander will take up his torch as the best pitcher in baseball.
