Blogathon # 28: Mr. President?
Time: 12:04am Island Time (10:34pm EST)
Now that I have a little more time, I’m going to try to answer one of those questions I was given earlier today:
Hi Peter, If you had a chance to be the President off the United States. What would you do for us that has not ever been to make it Much Better world to live in? Anne~
This great question was asked by one of my favorites, Amazing Grace, who also happens to be an amazing poet and a great person. So this one of for Anne, who no doubt would give me her vote if I ever ran for President. Even though Arnold has a better chance of gracing the Oval Office than I do, I will none the less give a serious answer. Here is a quick, off the top of my head list of what I would do if I suddenly became President Of The United States:
– I’d respect and restore the kyoto accords, as earlier agreed to by Pres. Clinton. Our nation is the highest pollution making, the accords won’t succeed unless the US get involved and make their effort to help reduce emmissions.
– I’d reverse all of Pres. Bush’s tax cut for the rich. That money would be better spend putting into programs that need it, like education, health care and benefits for War Vets. All three of those programs have been given cuts because of tax breaks for the rich. Does that seem fair?
– I’d bring an end to the conflicts with the so-called axis of evil. I’d drop the bullshit diplomatic channels, and our own talking for a change. I’d invite the President of Iran to Washington for direct face to face talks and treat him like an equal, rather than a tyrant. That alone would get peace negotiations off and running on the right foot…
– The same goes for North Korea. They don’t want war, and merely to be treated with a bit of respect. Face to face negociations in Bejing would settle that matter faster than six nation talks that have dragged on forever.
– Friends should be strong and wise enough to stand up to another friend when they are doing something wrong. I would do the same for Isreal. they’re walking down a path that only leads to more bloodshed, and someone has to step in and keep all sides apart. Time is needed to let cooler heads prevail… that’s what I would say to both sides.
– I would make a pledge to never declare war for oil and use that as a groundwork to work peaceful workings rather than scaring nations into thinking they’re next. We have a lot of PR damage to repair.
– End the trade embargo with Cuba. Castro is about as harmful as we make him out to be. We give him the power to be a pain in the ass. Removing the embargo takes that power away and makes him just another loud raving dictator that we can ignore.
– I would be man enough to admit mistakes were made. The buck stops here…
How’s that?
Peter
