Best/Worst Movies of 2006 Survey

I really think 2006 was a poor movie quality wise. Good films were few and far between… but there was some real stand outs. Some classic heroes made some good comebacks while others crashed and burned. Even though I scarcely posted a review, here is my survey for the best and worst films and whatnot for the year 2006. Enjoy!

7. Freedomland

6. My Super Ex-Girlfriend

5. Hoodwinked

4. Stay Alive

3. Barnyard

2. BloodRayne

1. Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction

3. Biggest Guilty Pleasure of the Year: Ice Age 2, I had just as much fun watching it as the kids did.

4. Best Title: Tenacious D and the pick of destiny (How can you not love that title?)

5. Worst Title: Barnyard: The original party animals (whatever)

6. Movie Title That Could Be Confused with Porn Titles: Hard Candy

7. Sequels We Didn’t Need: most of them, but to be honest it was a slow year for sequels.

8. Best Sequel of 2006: Clerks II. (I would have said Casino Royale, but that’s more of a prequel)

9. Worst Sequel of 2006: Basic Instinct 2. Good premise, just didn’t live up to its potential.

10. Biggest Disappointment of 2006: Read the above answer.

11. Biggest Breakthrough: Daniel Craig. He’s the best bond since Connery.

12. Most Bizarre Film Trend of 2006: Torture movies are the in thing all of a sudden, following Saw’s success.

13. Best 2006 Acting Portfolio: Movies that seems to push a propaganda agenda. Films like United 93 and World Trade Center that clearly push the official story rather that question it. Who will be the first director to fire the first shot of doubt? We’ll see…

14. Worst 2006 Acting Portfolio: Jennifer Aniston. (She should fire her agent, asap!)

15. Most Fun I Had at the Movies in 2006: Casino Royale. Was the only movie I wanted to go back and watch again in theatres this year…

16. Best Movie I Saw in 2006 (That Wasn’t Released in 2006): Good Night And Good Luck

17. Paris Hilton Award for Worst Movie Premise: Barnyard. The retards who wrote that movie need to learn all about cattle biology. Cows are females… BULLS are males. Morons!

18. Best Villain: John Hurt (V For Vendetta)

19. Worst Villian: That winged thing in Underworld Evolution

20. Best Onscreen Death: V for Vendetta when V departs with a bang on the 5th of November.

21. Worst Onscreen Death: Capt. Jack Sparrow in Dead Man’s Chest. We all know he didn’t die, cause we know Depp is in the third movie coming out next year. To even try to make us think he did was poorly done. Almost ruined the movie.

22. Thora Birch Award for Hottest Female Actress of the Year: Natalie Portman (she was awesome in ‘V for Vendetta’ with or without her hair…

23. Best Actor: Daniel Craig (Casino Royale)

24. Best Actor Runner Ups: Hugo Weaving (V For Vendetta), Hugh Jackman (The Prestige), Clive Owen (Inside Man)

25. Worst Actor: Marlon Wayans (Little Man)

26. Worst Actor Runner Ups: Jack Black (Nacho Libre), Adam Sandler (Click), Colin Farrell (Miami Vice)

32. Best Supporting Actress: Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta)

33. Best Screenplay: Clerks II (Kevin Smith made a sequel as good as the first, a rare thing to see)

34. Worst Screenpley: Barnyard. (Again the writers need to know there is no such thing as a male cow… they’re called BULLS!)

35. Best Director: Martin Scorsese (The Departed)

36. Worst Director: Uwe Boll (BloodRayne)

45. Movies From 2006 I Still Need to See:

My current must see hit list (in this order):

1. Blood Diamond
2. Bobby
3. Little Miss Sunshine
4. Babel
5. Children Of Men
6. The Fountain

The Fountain was excellent (my pic for best of the year followed by Pan’s Labyrinth). But I’m dismayed by the lack of documentaries on this list. Two of the best movies of the year (After Innocence, and The Bridge) fall into that category. Also I see no foreign films (like 13 Tzameti). What gives, yo?

Little Miss Sunshine is a gem. I highly recommend it. And I, too, want to see Children of Men.

Hoodwinked certainly wasn’t a classic but I thought it was clever

December 30, 2006

I love dark comedy BUT I was disappointed in Little Miss Sunshine even though the premise was great and the cast was stellar. My husband hated Babel. I didn’t see it. I liked the Producers but I like musicals just because I like musicals. I liked man of the Year too.

December 30, 2006

Wait a sec… isn’t Dreamgirls a musical?

Happy Feet makes me want to stab myself. That movie was SO bad. I admit, however, I enjoyed Barnyard.

December 30, 2006

I loved Inside Man. I think it was way underrated and I think more people need to rent it and watch. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice list. It seems Babel, Bobby, and Children of Men are going to be huge contendors when awards season comes, so you better get to watching those before you make your final mark on 06 movies.
