Back into work way too early…

It’s six thrity in the morning, and here I am sitting at the desk getting ready for work. The reason is because they’re offering overtime this early and I could use the money, and there’s nothing better than OT. The best thing about this is after working an extra five to six hours, I’ll be off a noon and will still have the whole day ahead of me, which will allow me to spend a little time with Leah and Ethan and still have an little extra cash next week when I get paid. The best of both world basically, so that’s what I’m here this cold and rainy morning. But I like working OT and usually, it’s dead in the mornings, so I expect it to be nice and slow, which will allow me to catch up with a few favorites and leave a few notes, hopefully (Knock on Wood). So that’s going to be my morning, but I voluteered so I’ve only gone one jerkoff to blame for that.

Leah is still a little bummed out concerning Ethan’s cancelled Birthday party, and is furious at her bosses over it. Turns out that other co-workers did get free access to the daycare and they’re just being mean to her and asking her to pay for the right to do the same thing others got for free. I don’t know what they have against my wife, but they’re really making a case for Leah not to return after her next maternity leave. I don’t even have to argue anymore, she’s on board to not returning and will look for greener pastures when she returns to the work force next year. The cool thing is that Leah is also doing some extra school work and will be finishing her early daycare qualifications to make her even more qualified to work at a daycare. Right now she’s only allowed to work with the 2 and 3 year old rooms, but after doing this she’ll be qualified to do them all and she plans to do most of this traning while on maternity leave and I’ll be there to help her (you know proofread papers, take care of the kids) to make this as easy as possible for her. And with that qualification under her belt when she gets back, she’ll just apply for the competition and leave the other daycare high and dry… which is fitting after the way they’ve been treating her over the last year.

We do plan to take Ethan out for dinner tonight, where will probably depend on Leah’s mood… but I’m usually up for anything. Ethan isn’t a very picky eater himself so I’m sure he’ll be game for almost anything… though I bet he would prefer to have a plate of french fries for his birthday dinner so hopefully we’ll be able to appease the little dude while at the same time keeping the pregnant lady happy as well. I might toss out the idea of hitting the Chinese Buffet tonight, but she might not be game for it, so I won’t get my hopes up. Leah has been a little tight with the budget lately, so I might have to do a little pleading and begging to get my way this time. If not, we might do it next week after payday intead.

Speaking of paychecks, after wrangling for several months and even threatening legal action, one of my former employers finally provided me with my last T4 which means I can not file my taxes, like half a year late… but it’s not my fault so the Government will be cool with me. Usually if you don’t owe money, which I don’t… they won’t get too pissed if you’re late. But I have a good excuse this time out (being a late T4 from a shitty boss) so they’ll be good with me. I plan to take them to my accountant next week and get them filed ASAP, cause we stopped getting our child benefit two months ago because of my tardiness. But when its all filed and taken care of, things will be cool and they’ll actually pay back everything that we missed all in one lump sum… which will make momma very, very happy. I really didn’t like being late this year, but with only one employer all year for 2005, I won’t have that problem next year when I file (knock on wood).

So that’s been my day so far, I’m logged in and ready to take a few calls. I like hanging out with the graveyard shift who are actually just a few hours away from their finish. There is such a laid back atmosphere that is missing from the dayshift that is nice to hang out with every now and then. As much as I would love to work nights again, I don’t think Leah would be able to handle it so I’ll keep my regular shift and work the same hours I’ve been preferencing for the last year. The way I look at it is, if I keep working at noon start times like I do now, instead of taking care of Ethan before he heads off for daycare like I am now, I’d just wake up with both kids after the next baby is here and let Leah sleep in every morning before I head off for work. That way she remains well rested and never burns out. That’s my plan and reasons for keeping the day shifts cause I think that will leave me with the best chance to be as helpful as I can with Leah after the second kid arrives. Man, I can’t wait to see the next kid already. We’re a little concerned about how Ethan will react, but I think he’ll get used to it rather quickly.

I hope everyone else is having a great Saturday morning, and I’ll be around depending on how insane things are around here after I log in. Later…

Peter
