An MRI, Work and Movie Update…
I realize this diary has been a smige neglected and for that I apologize. I’ve have been juggling a lot of stuff over the last few weeks, but that is really no excuse. If I have time to read notes and check favorites, I have time to post. During that time I just didn’t have that feeling I needed to put something down, but that has returned so it’s time to update everyone on what has been going on.
First I’ll start with the MRI. I showed up at the hospital at 2am Monday morning, only to find out that the machine is too small. In order to fit into that machine I would have had to dislocate one of my shoulders. My shoulders are ten inches bigger than my waist, so I never got past my chest in, which was a tad disappointing. I saw my doctor the next day and he apologized for not anticipating this, and is going to try to book a new MRI in Toronto which has a machine that is the one used to check football players when their mellons get scrambled. Not sure how long I’ll have to wait, but at the moment it’s better than getting no scan at all.
There was a nasty snow storm on Tuesday. Well it wasn’t that massive, but fucked up enough to mess up traffic in the city for half the day. The reason why I mention this is because Leah and I had an appointment with the councellor, and while I made it on time because I took the bus, Leah never made it because she works a split shift and traffic getting from work was hell. So it was another solo appointment for myself, which was all right cause I used the time to talk about a lot of stuff. We had such a good session, that the doc asked to see me one on one again and Leah didn’t seem to have a problem with this. We’re still going to have sessions together, but we need to book a new time so that she doesn’t miss appointments like this again.
Chris had the week off cause some machines at the plant were in need of repairs, and to make up for the loss of income… I took a tip from a bud and did a bit of temp work this week. I don’t mind going out and doing a bit of hard labour every now and then, but this one was above average hard. I managed to clock a little over twenty hours this week, and that was enough for me. Chris is back to work and I’m going to stay home with the boys again. Now I remember whyI want to be a writer: real work sucks.
Last weekend, Leah and I went out to see the new movie Cloverfield. It was a really messed up film that was basically The Blair Witch Project with a budget. I thought the movie was all right… not oscar worthy or anything, but enjoyable. Leah hated the movie with a passion, which is a shame since she picked the movie and it was her idea to check it out. I can’t take the blame for this one. Speaking of popcorn action movies, I also managed to check out Nicholas Cage’s return as Ben Gates in National Treasure: Book Of Secrets. I had fun watching the first film, and if you did this one is just as fun to check out. Once again nothing Oscar worthy but still fun to check out.
Speaking of something that’s Oscar worthy, I recently saw No Country For Old Men. If I had to describe it in one word: Masterpiece. This is the best Coen Brother film I have ever seen. Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and especially Javier Bardem are flat out brilliant in this gruesome tale about drugs, money and the people who fight each other over them. Watching Woody Harrelson get smoked with a sawed off shotgun is worth the price of admission alone but it’s a film that I think will surprise many. There are still some big oscar movies I have yet to check out (Juno, Michael Clayton, There Will Be Blood) but I’m confident after watching No Country that I have seen the best movie of 2007, hands down. Something is gonna have to knock my socks off to replace that brilliant film at the top of my 2007 list.
And since we’re only a week away, I’m going to finish this entry with a Superbowl prediction: we’re going to see a historic finish to the season with a perfect 19-0 season for the New England Patriots. The Pats Defence was lax during their last game of the season, but they’ll be all business and in Eli’s face next week to the point where I’ll be very surprised if the Giants score more that 14 points. As for Mr. Brady and the Pats, they’ll score a lot more than 14 and don’t be surprised if this is another blowout like the ones we’ve seen a few times over the last decade. I’m talking 40+ points, and a score like 48-10 or 52-14 when it’s all said and done. Yeah, it’s going to be a big game for the Pats and they’re going to beat the Giants like a Narc at a biker rally. I’m so confident about this prediction, that I’m willing to put money on it. Not much, but a bit.
Well, that’s it for now. Everyone have a good weekend and I’ll be around to post again soon. Promise! Until then, take care…
Peter
have a good weekend. i hope you can get into your MRI sooner rather than later.

the way both teams have been playing, i’d be quite surprised if it was a blowout. i expect the pats to win but i think it’ll be close.
Warning Comment
and i figure if the pats didn’t pressure the crap out of a completely immobile philip rivers, i’m not sure why they’d do it to a healthy eli. they should because that’s when eli gets in trouble, when he throws on the run. but if they weren’t going to blitz the crap out of a QB with a knee injury…

Good luck with the MRI (when it happens). I can’t wait for No Country For Old Men to be released over here. It looks amazing.

Any news from Amazon?

Bummer about the MRI, that is really unfortunate. I hope that you are able to get another appointment soon! =;p

Wow, I hope your MRI gets taken care of soon. I think it will be a little closer than that, though the Patriots will win. Better players, better coaching. It really depends on which Eli Manning shows up. If he plays like the last few games it could be close. If he is back to his old self, the Patriots are gonna cream them. Also, rumor has it Brady has a sore leg. If he gets hurt or can’t play, it’s a toss up.

I have been thinking of you and wondering how the MRI went. How annoying that you have to wait even longer. Best wishes. We saw Sweeney Todd today. Very Dark. I am not a Tim Burton fan. Johnny Depp was, as usual, outstanding. Helena Bonham Carter cannot sing. I just kept thinking that Angela Lansbury originated that role. On the other hand, I almost always find Steven Sondheim’s music disappointing and repetative. I’m a big fan of musical theater but I’d rather something more upbeat.

I hope the Giants win. I like an underdog.

:/ I hope they schedule you in soon. It must be very difficult to be waiting and not knowing…and then waiting some more. Hang in there.

Oh Peter, I’m so sorry about the MRI! That must have been so frustrating! *hugs*
