42

Despite the cool picture above, this entry is not about the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

And no, this is not an entry about Jackie Robinson.

Today is about my age, which as of today has reached the number 42.

I walk into a new year a little more appreciative of what I have and less concerned about what I don’t. Since my mother passed away on Halloween last year, this is also my first birthday without her. I realize it’s just another day but it will feel weird not hearing from her today.

I’m also kid free this weekend, but I plan to try to connect with the boys on Skype later tonight as a last resort. But this does leave me free to celebrate like an adult, which is the first time I’ve been able to in a few years. Later tonight my Dad is taking me to a sports bar to eat wings, drink beer and watch game 4 of the world series on some really big TVs. Should be fun.

Tomorrow a group of writers in Hamilton are gathering to hang out and socialize before Nanowrimo starts up again next month. For those who are unaware of what that is, it’s short for “National Novel Writing Month”. Writhers around the world do a literary marathon, writing a 50,000 novel within 30 days from November 1st to the 30th. It’s a great exercise and I do it every year. If I complete my 50K this year, it will be my 12th straight successful run. A streak I do not plan on ending this year.

So I’ve got good plans to start off my 42nd year, and I am going to do my best to make sure this year is the best I can make of it for life, the universe and everything else.

Regards,

Peter

Happy Birthday. If I’m prying just ignore me but I can’t help wondering if you’ve sold any of your Nanowrimo 50,000 word novels. Is it considered cheating to polish the writing after the 30-days are up?

October 28, 2017

Thanks and no, your question is not prying. It’s only cheating if you start before Nov 1st, but you’re free to polish and add as much as you want after. The goal is to just do 50K in 30 days.
