I can’t get over it.

I had lost touch with someone I knew from when I first ran off to Florida with my then boyfriend (now ex-husband lol) 25 years ago. Ex-hubby and I were down there for 2 years and we became good friends with ‘Freda’ (not her real name). I babysat for her, we worked together as waitresses in a pancake house and we could handle any crowd together we were so in sync. In fact, when I switched shifts and told her, she acted like I had just broken up with her! LOL!

After I left Florida, she and her 5 year old knocked on my door one day out of the blue about 2 years later and stayed for 2 weeks. I was tickled pink even though we only had a 4 room apartment and a 2 year old! Two years after that we did the same thing to her except we had a hotel room.

We kept in touch over the next few years after that but somehow through the years the calls slowed down and even the holiday cards quit coming and going. Just life I suppose.

So this year I find her old address from 18 years ago and take a shot. I sent out a Christmas card with my email address in it just in case it actually gets to her and right on Christmas eve is an early gift…a response!

It turns out she has been sending cards to my old address for the last couple of years and has googled me but with my name change it didn’t do any good. In her email she said she was so excited to hear from me and had so much news and gave me her phone number. It sure sounded just like my old friend Freda and I couldn’t wait to call her! But I couldn’t call right away since I knew it would take at the very least a couple of hours to catch up with my old friend, but yesterday I had the time and couldn’t wait.

Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch….that’s all she does now. Oh yeah, she doesn’t just bitch, she bitches and moans too! lol. WOW! I was expecting the call to be like when Carole and I got back together…we laughed and reminisced and talked about what’s going on and just enjoyed each other’s company. My ear was numb from holding the phone so long and my face hurt from laughing.

But not so with this old friend Freda. After 18 years during which we raised our kids, changed jobs, marital status, and the states we live in, all Freda could talk about is the feud she’s having with her daughter-in-law, the feud she’s having with her DIL’s parents, the feud she’s having with her ex-husband and ummm, a couple of other feuds I can’t remember. Oh yeah, she asked about Alysia, wasn’t impressed I had 5 more kids now, had nothing to say about Dennis except that all men are cheats and liars! Of course, it wasn’t just non-stop bitching, there was also lots of dead air when neither of us could think of anything to talk about. We ran out of things to say after 10 minutes!! Amazing.

After struggling through about 15 minutes of this conversation, I suddenly ‘had to go…um, because Steven just pulled in and I had to get supper going’…or something like that. I won’t be calling her again and she’s back off the Christmas card list! LOL!

After how close we had been, I just can’t get over it.

PS…On a happy note, Dennis and I are becoming quite competitive in Scrabble and my scores have come way up! We routinely score in the 400 each range and I even got a high score once of 568! That was a goal I never thought I could reach…a whole 210 points above Dennis’ score that game!! Woohoo!

I guess there was a reason you two faded away from each other. I really think people come into our lives when we need them, for whatever reason there may be. Some stay, some go. It’s sad her life took the path of negativity. I hope she can change it because eventually nobody will want to be around her when she spews that much poison all the time. Yeah for scrabble, we’re big dominoe folks overhere. When the family was here we had a few games that got loud : > )

:-/ We always forget *WHY* we lose contact with some friends over the years. PS: Yay on your high score! 😀

WooHoo on your scrabble score!!! Grammy was very competitive scrabble player. Reading about your & Dennis’s matches reminds of when I played with Grammy. 🙂 Ugh! On the old friend. 🙁 Love & Hugs

People can sure change over the years, I guess – some for the better and some for the worse!
