Curtain pictures finally!
Here are the pictures finally, but I am not really happy with them. The colors are not right in the pictures and don’t give a real feel for how the room looks now. We had problems because of the sun streaming in though so I won’t complain since that’s a huge selling point. This room and the sliders specifically are the very first thing a potential buyer will see when they walk in so I worked hard to show it off as best we could. Oh, and I will have all the clutter gone when it goes on the market too! LOL!
I hadn’t planned on putting that band of flowered material in the long curtains, but I needed extra length and it also allowed me to have the grain of the material going up and down instead of across so I am pleased with that at least!
There are two things to note in this picture. First is the cheap $3 ocean scene which was actually the inspiration for the color scheme of the curtains! The blue in the curtains is not really that dark, and the green is not right either, but that’s not the second thing to notice…it’s that the band of material I used to lengthen the curtain matches the material I used to make the valance in the kitchen! See how it all ties in now? How it all flows and matches? How it’s separate but not? Are you as tickled pink as I am? LOL!
Another view of the curtains and also what a potential buyer sees when they first come in. Bright and sunny, isn’t it? Oh and might I just say that getting those bands of material perfectly even on both curtains was no easy feat!! I can’t tell you how many times I had to rip out a seam and re-sew it….only to have them NOT perfectly even! Grrrr! But you can only tell when the curtains are closed and it’s not that bad but it drives me nuts. Oh well, they are up and the buyer will not know they are uneven until the papers are signed and we are off!
Just another view, but you can see how the kitchen valance matches. Not bad considering I made custom 90 inch curtains for about $30! Oh, and that INCLUDES the $12 for the curtain rod! Woohoo!
In other news, Jasmine gave us another scare last night. She once again struggled upstairs to sleep yesterday. I don’t know why she hasn’t figured out that if she goes UPstairs, she must come DOWNstairs! So she doesn’t have the strength in her back legs to come down all those stairs and she fell down most of the stairs when it was time to walk her. Obviously she had hurt herself going up and hurt herself even more coming down and I was really worried we would lose her. It would be even harder to lose her so soon after losing Alley Cat. But as Dennis said "This bouncing back is getting old!" LOL! Sure enough, she was up and walking pretty good this morning so a sigh of relief was had by all. And I have blocked off the stairs because you know she would be up them if I didn’t!
Steven moved in a week ago and so far, it’s been just fine! There are a few things we have to adjust to, like having the video game going whenever he’s home, and he spends an awful lot of time on the phone, but those are things we can deal with. He gets himself up and to work on time without us having to even wake him up, and he is paying rent now so that helps. And he will even clean up occasionally and take out the garbage. It’s good to see him eating well and always in a good mood. Since he was out on his own, he actually appreciates it here now!
BUT (oh yes, there’s always a BUT where kids are concerned isn’t there? lol) right now he and his friend are both upstairs sleeping. Once in awhile it’s ok if a friend stays over because it’s late and they don’t want to drive, and it’s ok if they eat up all the leftovers in the fridge and even if they stay up late to play video games. When it happened the first time, we were ok with it. But this is the second time in the first week Steven has moved in that this friend is over and we feel a problem coming on that needs to be nipped in the bud. I am not putting up with this kid feeling comfortable enough to start hanging out here as much as he does! Dennis will talk to Steven when he comes home tonight, but I am off to do my part.
I suddenly feel the urge to vacuum the upstairs landing in front of his bedroom door and all the stairs along the wall of the bedroom, being especially careful to get right into the corner of each and every stair with the nozzle! But I’m sure they’re already awake…after all it’s 8AM! (Is my evil grin showing? LOL)
I love your curtains!!! They look perfect! Glad Jasmine is okay for now. Probably she had some kind of inflammation. They often go away after 24 hours. Have fun with your vacuum! LOL

I love the curtains! Very creative on your part. I noticed immediatetly that the stripe was the same material as the kitchen valance. You are very thrifty. The $3.00 sailboat picture is lovely. Steven sounds like a great kid. ox
