We Heart Bronny

I guess Lebron James and his family received some really good news just recently when they learned that Lebron “Bronny” James Jr. will be able to resume his college basketball career, at some point.  It has yet to be estimated as to when Bronny’s return will occur, but suffice it to say, that his return will be highly anticipated.  Bronny, at least according to one news source, was recently determined to have “a significant, but treatable congenital heart defect”.  I’m not a doctor, but I’m taking this to mean that whatever his heart condition is, it is treatable and it shouldn’t interfere too much with his being able to play basketball at the collegiate level.

Now, in reverting to my USC Trojan self, I could not be more ecstatic about this.  You see, USC Men’s basketball has historically been terrible.  It just has, even dating back to my time at the school.  Now, with Bronny and whoever else the school was able to recruit to the men’s basketball team, I imagine that we’re supposed to be somewhat competitive this year.  This has to be a huge development, being that at least for this season, USC might actually have a decent men’s basketball season.

I’m not anticipating a season like what the San Diego State Aztecs did last season, but I wouldn’t mind a Sweet 16 or Elite Eight appearance in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.  Of course, I am preparing for Bronny James to take his talents straight to the NBA after this coming NCAA Men’s basketball season, which I’m thinking would not be surprise to anyone who even casually follows college basketball.  I doubt that he would have any reason to stick around another season.  If I had his pedigree, I’d leave too.  I had to stay all four years at USC and graduate like everyone else, you know, by going to class, writing papers, and taking tests.  I wasn’t even close to being a collegiate athlete.  I couldn’t dribble a basketball to save my life.  I sure as hell wasn’t tall enough to make any kind of impact on any basketball court.  I arrived at USC weighing just under 300 pounds.  What in the hell could I have done on the basketball court?  Aside from just stand there, not much of anything else really.

But in the end, this entry is not about me.  It’s about Bronny James not dying in July and how I’m hoping that he will bring prominence to USC Men’s basketball at least for the 2023-2024 season.

I suppose in the end, a boy can dream.  I am still very hopeful, though I’ll admit that I’m also glad that Bronny didn’t die.  That could have really messed up the USC Men’s basketball season this coming year and absolutely ruined Bronny’s freshman year.  Rest assured, the Trojan faithful remain grateful.  And if Bronny learns anything in an academic sense, that would be icing on the proverbial cake.
