Ears Ringing?
It was brought to my attention yesterday that apparently Serena has been talking about me to some of our newer co-workers. In doing so, Serena had created some curiosity amongst our co-workers, which prompted them to question Serena as to where I sat in the office so that they could come and meet me. Serena did them a favor by personally escorting them to my cubicle, where all three of them (including Serena) caught me off guard. And in an instant, I was forced to unexpectedly interact with people, specifically people I didn’t know. I kept things cordial, as I always do, because I know that first impressions are huge. I know that one of those two girls spends a lot of time with Serena, as they are both participating in the same training classes, those same training classes that keep Serena and I apart for much of the week and will continue to do so until just before mid-October. I think that girl’s name is Kelsey. I wasn’t paying close attention, but I want to say that I am 95% confident that that’s her name. Kelsey presents well enough and she seems eager to learn as much about the job as she can. Of course, the majority of new hires come in that way, so in that regard, Kelsey does not stand out.
Truth be told, I have no idea what Serena told them about me, though I can assume that it had to be mostly, if not completely, positive. Kelsey would only say that she had heard “so much” about me from Serena during their two weeks in training, to which I could only reply, “Hopefully nothing negative”. Later in the day, Serena assured me that she only told them good things about me and being that I have no reason to doubt Serena, I have faith that she painted me in an especially positive light.
This has to be proof that I’m leaving quite the impression on Serena, for her to be speaking about me and mentioning my name to others in conversations that I’m not a part of. Serena doesn’t know this, but I too have spoken positively about her to some of our co-workers, especially to her supervisor. I find it interesting that we are talking each other up to various people around the office, because really, we don’t have to do any of that. Well, that’s not entirely true. There have been instances where her supervisor has randomly and casually asked me about how Serena is coming along with her training and with the job in general. Serena will always receive a glowing review from me because she is truly doing an excellent job in acclimating herself to the job and learning everything that comes with it. She still has a long way to go, but she continues to make strides in the right direction and thus far, she has not regressed any and that’s huge.
I don’t know Kelsey well, if at all, but I know that as long as she continues to spend time with Serena (in my place perhaps), Kelsey will probably continue to learn more and more about me, even if she doesn’t want to. I find it very heart-warming knowing that Serena talks about me and obviously thinks about me when we are apart. It truly is a nice feeling and very fitting perhaps, in that, I think about Serena all the time as well. In fact, I think about her a lot.
