Wireless!

I’m working from home today because the plumber is here. We’re having a new boiler fitted. This is good, because frankly the old one is driving me mad. It will also be reassuring to have heat this winter. One never quite knew whether the old one boiler would decide to plunge us into Arctic conditions without warning.

This weekend we went to the exhibition at the local steam railway museum. There were dozens of model railway layouts and the boy had a great time. I’d quite like to build a model railway layout, but I don’t have the space. Some of those guys take it too seriously. They must spend thousands on their layouts. We also went swimming at the Oasis yesterday. That was good too. The boy found a friend of his from school and they ha a great time together.

It seems like the royal family are really pissed off that pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge were published. Or perhaps they’re pissed off because the pictures were taken. They have launched all sorts of legal actions however. It’s odd isn’t it. I’m sure the magazine in question sold more copies this month than usual, but they are going to end up paying a huge fine and people will go to prison. They must have known this before they bought the pictures. When I lived in Taiwan there was a similar scandal. A magazine published pictures and distributed a DVD showing a female politician having sex with someone else’s husband. The magazine was pulled from the shelves within about two hours of publication. Everyone involved in obtaining the pictures ended up in prison, and the magazine wen tout of business I think. Nobody won. I think the politician’s career was ruined too.

Boiler update; it’s in and working. They guy is coming back tomorrow to flush the system out, but it’s giving us hot water from the taps, and the dripping radiator is no longer dripping. What’s more, there was heat from radiators. The best thing about it all was a surprise however; we have a wireless thermostat. Yeah I know, wireless! I can switch the heating on from the bed if I want. How cool (er hot) is that? It’s got all sorts of programmable stuff too. I can set it to turn off the heat for say ten days while we go away on holiday, and then turn it on again on the eleventh so the house is warm when we return. I can even turn teh heat on later in the morning at the weekend because we don’t have to get up and go to work.

OK that will do for tonight. I’ll be back tomorrow. Be good!

Great news about the heating upgrade. Whatever you do, do not leave the wireless thermostat outside 🙂
