My Funny Valentine

Hubby proposed exactly 3 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long. He just happened to be ready to propose around the end of January, so he decided to wait until Valentine’s day. I’m terrible with surprises, so I actually ended up finding out when he was going to propose a couple weeks before he did. Kind of took the surprise out of it.

His original plan was to propose on the big screen at a baseball game. I caught on to that when he started talking about baseball in December and wanted to make plans to go to the first game of the season. I not-so-subtly hinted that I thought it was kind of tacky, and I hate having lots of attention on me, and thankfully, he took the hint and scratched that plan.

We had reservations for Valentine’s day at a Japanese place, and he was going to have them put the ring on a piece of sushi or something weird like that, but he realized early in the day that he was just going to be a nervous wreck all day, so he ended up doing it in the middle of the day at his apartment.

I was sitting on the couch, and he came over to where I was, and went to kneel down. Being a bit nervous, he didn’t plan the kneeling too well, and put his knee into the coffee table. So instead of kneeling, he kind of fell over. The good thing about it was, I just thought he tripped and fell down, so it was a surprise when I realized what he was actually doing!

I love the story of how he proposed because it’s so very him. Hubby always tries to say sweet things to me, and ends up getting them horribly mangled. Example…he said one time (during a fight) that his heart beats only when he’s with me. I asked, "well, what do you do when I’m at work, then?" and he said "I get a picture of you and beat to that."

I wouldn’t love him nearly as much if he were smooth and always said the right thing. I love the Hubby.
