Moved
It’s been interesting. I don’t think moving has ever been this much of an ordeal–I’m so burned out.
We started moving on monday, because that’s when our friend with the truck was available (hubby’s best friend). So we got started moving. I was feeling pretty good about it, because this was by far the most organized I’ve ever been for moving–I had all my boxes labeled with which room they should go to, and a floorplan of the new place so it was clear where the furniture would go (my style of moving is to hold the door open while I play damsel in distress and have the men do all the lifting).
So we started off. I somehow didn’t realize that since the last time we moved, 2 years ago, we had acquired nearly twice as much stuff as we had before. I don’t even know what all it is–just tons and tons of stuff. So last time we moved, it all got done in one day, but we had an extra guy and a lot less stuff. So around 4 pm, the guys burned out. And half our furniture was still sitting in the old place.
Thankfully, we made it so our leases overlap by a few days, so we have until saturday to be out of the old place. But monday was the only day that hubby and the friend with the truck were both available. And it’s common knowledge among people who know me that I’m pretty much useless when it comes to moving. So we had to hire people to move the rest of the furniture.
It’s not so much that I minded having to pay for movers–it’s just that if I had known we were going to have to pay, we would have just hired people for the whole job. So yesterday we had the movers bring over just the big stuff, because friend with truck said he would be around today to bring over the rest of the stuff.
So I’ve spent the whole day with friend with truck, who is a very nice person, but one that I can only handle in very small doses. We did get almost everything moved over, and hubby is going to go to the old place after work to just throw everything else into boxes and bring them over in his car. Yes, I know we should have had everything in boxes before we even started moving, but we are just really, really bad at moving. Last time we moved, we only got about half of our stuff packed, so I was throwing things in boxes as everyone else was moving them out. So not fun. And I so didn’t want to do that again. But I kind of did anyway.
Ugh. I hate this week. So now, assuming hubby does what he’s supposed to and gets everything out of the old place, I have to spend tomorrow scrubbing and vacuuming and filling in holes so that we get our security deposit back. I hate to clean, so I should be good and grumpy by the end of tomorrow.
But hopefully that will be the end of it. If I get all done with the old place tomorrow, we’ll leave our keys and stuff, and never have to go there again. It’s funny, because I was so sad about leaving that place, because it’s such a nice house, but the whole moving and cleaning ordeal has made me hate it. Oh well, I guess things just work out.
Then I get to unpack, which I actually like to do. It’s kind of like opening presents, because if you’re like me and don’t actually organize the boxes too well, you never know what you’re going to find in there. Plus, I love putting up decorations. I’m resolving to be a lot more organized in our new place. It’s smaller, so I’m going to have to organize, or we won’t be able to function here.
The cats are freaking out about being moved. They spent the first night crawling around on their bellies and meowing weirdly, and have scaled it back to just acting suspicious of everything.
Ok, need to get back to organizing. I promise I’ll catch up on faves and respond to notes once I’m a little more settled.
Ha, that’s funny about the cats. I’m with you though- blah on moving and cleaning and all that junk… you deserve a good stiff drink! Have one on me! 🙂

I’m the glad the move went well regardless of you having to hire movers half-way through! lol I hope all goes well with the unpacking! <3

Our cats were the same way when we moved.. it was especially funny to see them react to having to use stairs, as they are both about 6 years old, and have never used stairs… But they have adjusted nicely… and keep us awake at night running up and down the stairs chasing eachother…

Congrats! Sounds like a fun transition.
