Yet One More Entry

We left the house at 1:30 to go to the restaurant where we were supposed to meet Bill, Fred’s friend. Fred had  made a reservation for 2 pm and we got seated at about 2:05 which, considering how busy they were, was excellent. We decided to be traditional and ordered the turkey and all the trimmings.

Now if you have never been around an insulin-dependent diabetic, you may not know that to some extent the amount of insulin taken is somewhat of a guessing game. The more food, the more insulin, and once the insulin has been taken, food must follow within a reasonable time. Fred knew he was going to eat a big meal so he had taken what he thought would be an adequate amount of insulin. Just before we left, I suggested he might want to put a cookie or two in his pocket and that he did. Anyway, we got seated and waited and waited. Eventually the waitress arrived but since Bill was not yet there, we decided to wait a little. It was now 2:45. After a while, I started to whine and demand food so we ordered. Our salads arrived {and, annoyingly, the dressing was on the salad even though I had asked for it on the side} but I was very hungry and ate it. At this point Bill arrived and he ordered what we did. We were through with our salads by that time and so I guess the waitress decided to wait until Bill was through with his salad and bring all the rest of the food at one time. This was NOT a good decision. Suddenly Fred reached into his coat pocket, got out the cookies and ate them! Then he called the waitress and politely but definitely told her he was a diabetic who had taken his insulin and he needed his plate very VERY soon! She looked horrified but we got our plates before Bill was through with his salad.

Apart from that little contretemps, everything went well. Bill and Fred had a good time recalling incidents from the time when they were roommates. I ate. I ate a lot and enjoyed every bit of it! I actually had dessert {apple pie} and enjoyed every bit of that, too! I went for a 20 minute walk this morning in the pouring rain but eventually was afraid that my umbrella was going to be blown away so cut the walk short. I may have a problem with walking outside tomorrow. The temperature is falling rapidly and there was a smattering of snow on my car when I got home. Tomorrow at 8:45 I have an appointment for the annual boob squish and I am a little nervous about driving if there is ice on the roads. Fred said he didnt think there would be but after I have looked at the weather tomorrow and if there was, wake him up and he would take me. He is good about things like this in that if he says something like this, he always means it so I feel a lot less nervous now.

I hope everyone has had a good day. I am off to get a shower and wash my hair so I won’t have to do it tomorrow morning.

Until later..

I get to do the boob squish and crotch poke on the same day, oh lucky me. You better bet that will make one helluvan entry.

If you ever need advice on anything, just leave me a note!

You left out the part about how much easier it was to get rid of Bill by meeting at the restaurant instead of at home. LOL! I hate when service is slow at a restaurant. Even when they’re busy, they should be more prompt than an HOUR. Yeesh.

I had intended to leave a note about what you had said in your journal entry, but the “advice” note above has me rolling on the floor laughing so hard that I forgot what it was. As Art Linkletter said …

Oh frabulous joy. I’m due for all of that too, and it’s a rotten thing to have to go through. Good luck with that, and I’m glad that dinner and all went well.

I’m glad Fred took out his cookies and demanded his food! I hate long waits in restaurants too. I’m glad the food was so good! I hope the roads aren’t icy today and hope your appt. goes well (boob squish….ew….I’ve yet to have one but I’ve heard nothing good about them!) May you have another great day (aside from that part anyhow!) Weesprite

RYN: LOL! Yep, LOADS of calories! That’s why I only make such things when there are lots of people to share the food with! For instance, I only had ONE very thin slice of that pie!
