Yesterday and Today

Yesterday was the first day I have been really cold since I have been here in Somerset. Luckily, I brought one sweater with me and wore it yesterday. Today is cool but not shivery and the weather is wanting to rain but I have been for two walks. The first one was a good fast walk up and down the hill and around the rec, but the second was a stroll down the road to the Farm Shop. Victor asked me to get two loaves of bread which I did. I was concerned that I would have forgotten where the garden center and farm shop were but it was pretty easy. There is a huge roundabout at the bottom of the road but it has been made very easy for pedestrians. What amused me as well as helped me were the messages painted on the road for pedestrians.  LOOK LEFT! and an arrow pointing left. And there was one for looking right, too. Very well done and I felt quite safe.

 I have only ever been to the farm shop in the autumn which was when I usually came to England and it was always beautifully decorated for Christmas. It seemed very odd today that they had garden furniture and barbecues on display. Anyway, I got two loaves and walked back. I may walk over there tomorrow and browse a bit more when I don’t have to be back at a certain time. {Victor wanted me back before he left so he wouldn’t have to leave the house unlocked…}

 I didn’t get to see Robbie yesterday since Toby went out to to pick up his father from the hospice from a meeting without coming home first and I have been riding with him. Victor said Robbie slept all day and had eaten nothing. We had a talk about how I was pleased that this is happening peacefully and she is so well looked after.

Today I was noodling around on this computer and I discovered final letters she had written to her husband, her daughter and son-in-law, her son and —  there was one for me…. I printed them all out and asked Victor if he wanted his. He said "No, not yet." so I told him where I had put them. Just now Toby came in and I asked him if he wanted his, He did. I may write about mine later. I also sent myself a copy in email as well as printing it out. Toby has gone to have a shower and then we will go out to the hospice.

Lots of interesting infomation in this entry, pussycat, you’re managing everthing so well… was it just luck finding Roberta’s words to each of you, or did you know of them by talking with Roberta when she was still talking and lucid?…either way, I’m sure each of you will be grateful for her thoughtfulness…Best…

How incredibly strong your sister is and how great her love to you all that she wrote you all letters while she could say what she wanted.

I just hope you find peace in everything. I worry about you sometimes.

I’m thinking of you. Thanks for your note, Patricia.

My grandmother wrote letters to all her children when she knew she was having a risky surgery… I wish she had thought to write to my brother and I as well. I wish I had known how serious it was so I could have written her. I treasure now the letters and postcards I do have from her. They are warm memories — always.
