Yes!!!

So, I had a word with Jake re the jumping cursor and he suggested it might be that I am letting my thumbs touch or get too near to the damned touch pad, so here I am writing with my thumbs held away from the touch pad, and so far, everything seems to be going well!I really cannot get used to touch pads and since I am a self-taught typist who uses two fingers on each hand, I don’t hold my hands up very high! I just went to look if I could turn the touch pad off and I can but there is no mouse available to replace it… OK. Moving on..

This week I am planning to look at a couple of apartments I found on line. This is only one of a couple  of choices we {Jake and I} are considering.I am going to hate leaving Vermont. but money-wise, I am going to have to move out of the apartment Fred and I shared so if I am going to have to move, it is only sensible to move where a part of my family is. NC strikes me as very similar to MS {where I lived for 30 years} in that it is a long drive to anywhere! It didn’t take me a huge amount of time to be able to  drive anywhere I needed to in MS and here in NC, I will have my friendly GPS to help me. Of course, there will be the changes, like a new doctor, a ophthalmologist,{I have glaucoma} a kidney doctor,{I have only one kidney} and  a dentist .

OK. enough for the moment because I am getting tired of holding my thumbs in an unnatural position!

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)

You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are

happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but

trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change

your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to

correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.

I wondered in the last entry if maybe you were touching the touch pad. I hate the touch pad as I just can’t get used to it so I have mine turned off and have a mouse connected. Since you like to take classes maybe you should look into a typing class. I know you hate leaving VT but it is nice that you have sons you can move close to. I may be in the same situation some day as I have 2 sons but since one is in Australia I’ll end up where ever Jeff is and he likes to move around. NC should be nice and warm compared to VT. I’m not a cold weather person but I am starting to despise the 100+ days in the Texas summers. I hope you can find a place that you like and will be happy. I’ve made a lot of changes in my life the last 23 yrs since my husband died and my life would be so different if he had lived. I wouldn’t be in West Texas for sure after we retired but I am stuck here now.

I commend you for typing entries on the laptop, having to use the touchpad! Touchpads drive me bonkers! Aw, I wish you didn’t have to move from Vermont. But I’m sure you will find much to enjoy about living in NC, and being close to your son will be one of them! hugs, Nicky

I’ve lived in VA for a few years and the south is lovely. I visited NC quite a few times and I remember it well. I guess if I could move again I wouldn’t mind getting back to the South. Good choice!

I wondered about the touch pad as well, but I assumed that you were a “touch typist” whose right thumb constantly hovers above the space bar. I just looked at my touch pad and my hands are apparently trained to stay away from it. When I first got my laptop it drove me crazy that things were constantly getting clicked on the I didn’t want until I discovered that tapping the touch pad was the same as clicking the mouse. I grew to like it, but my sister hates it and turned that feature off and uses the click buttons, which I hardly ever touch. Are you considering Senior Housing? There are some really nice apartment complexes near here that are subsidized and affordable, although somewhat small. The people who need assistance are in one section and the more independents people are in another. One of my former OD friends used to live there (she passed away several years ago). It was very nice and had security on the doors and everything.

It’s kind of exciting having a new apartment. I hope you can afford something that gives you a few features you can really enjoy.

It took me a long time to get used to a touch pad. Wow, NC! The winters will certainly be kinder to you, and I think it would be very good to be near your family. I think that your doctors in VT should be able to recommend good ones in NC for you.

I have a similar problem with my laptop mousepad thingy. If I am typing and my thumbs hit it, I turn it off just while typing and then turn it on when I’m navigating again. I also find it helps to be sitting at a height that is better for typing, if the laptop is too high up, my thumbs naturally rest on the mouse pad tracker thing.

Good luck finding a new home. Maybe you’ll be relieved not to have such hard winters anymore. I think it is a good idea to live near children when we are older.

i think you will find that the less brutal winters of north carolina are much easier to deal with. the summers may be a bit more hot and humid. it’s good you will be close to one of your boys. it’s a comfort to have family close by. i do the same thing with my touch pad. i touch it and my cursor skips around. have to think about not touching it. hold those thumbs up!! take care,

I’m still gettng used to my laptop and touchpad (my Christmas present this past year), too. I’ve read several people who claim to have a wireless mouse that they can use even on a sofa cushion! I might look into one of those if I can’t master this touchpad by the time I’ve had this laptop for a year 🙂
