YES!!!

If you looked out of your window about two hours ago and noticed dancing in the streets and general revelry, it was because I AM SIGNED UP FOR PASTELS I. {Yes, I did finally make a decision…}

Once I got to talk to an advisor, all went well, but there was a little bit of upset before that. I got there and told the girl behind the desk what I wanted and she asked me to sign in. So, I did and in the box for the time, put down 11:10 because that’s what it was. There were two people ahead of me who had at that point been waiting about 30 minutes. One was a young man with an illegible signature and the other was a young Middle-Eastern woman whose first name was Fatima. So, an advisor came out and asked for , "Whoever this is whose name I can’t read!" {It turned out to be Steve}. After about another 15 minutes, Fatima got up and told the girl behind the desk that she had to go. The girl asked her name and crossed her off the list. Three other people came in and signed in. Time passed. Then an advisor came out, looked at the list and called a name that wasn’t me. I got up and politely but firmly said, "Excuse me, but I believe *I* am next." And when we looked at the list, both my name and Fatima’s were crossed off! The girl behind the counter got a lecture that crossing off is NOT what she was supposed to do. She was supposed to write "Left" and write the time.

Anyway, once I got to talk to an advisor she enrolled me in the course I wanted and she said she was going to get some changes made so this wouldn’t happen again. What it all went back to is that when I first started going to the community college, I was told I had to take their basic reading and math test for which I would, of course, had to pay a fee. Equally politely, I told them there was no way! Of course I could read and do basic math! I had a degree and had been teaching for 30 years. So, the person who entered me put me down as a non-degree person which, I suppose, technically I am. The advisor said she would fill out a request sheet for the people who make the changes to have me changed from a non-degree person to a Life-Long Learning student and when this was done {in a few days, she said} the computer would love me forevermore. Anyway, she said that she could not take my money but I could go to a computer down the hall and log into the Maple site and pay from there. Luckily, I did remember my log-on name and I had changed the password to something I could remember. So, I am signed, sealed and delivered into the Pastels I class starting around the middle of September.

**Doing a happy dance**

Until later…

Oh, the hoops you are made to jump through! But, it was a success, so hurray!

I am on my way this afternoon to take the basic math test at the community college I am attending even though I already have one Associates Degree. My English from my other college was accepted but not my math so they have to access me. I heard it has alot of algebra on it so I might not pass but that is okay. A refresher math course wont kill me.

woohoo!!!

There is NO way the can require a person with a degree to take an elementary entry reading and math test. That is for incoming freshmen right out of high school. What buffoons. I like that lifetime learner name, though. I was thinking, hmmmm, about asking admin is I could get some teachers together to hold “fun” classes after school for payment. Like art, crafts, things like that. >c

the instructors could charge a small fee and for art classes a materials charge and maybe give the school a small portion of it, or maybe not. lol Our local colleges used to do that they called them Continuing Education or something like that. They had evening classes and Saturday and they had everything, educational (history, reading, math) to classes on antiques, golf, crafts, belly dancing too

congratulations! I love working in pastels. Very challenging working in a dry medium and it seems to get everywhere but they have a lovely softness to them.

Thanks for your support, Patrisha! I have periodic problems with my left hip, various other aches and pains that I know would feel better if I was less heavy. They won’t entirely go away I know, but they don’t need to get worse. Have you heard from Anna from the Circle? I’m wondering where she is.
