Various Bits of Info</B.
- The sciatica in the right leg is very very S-L-O-W-L-Y diminishing. I found my hot pad which has really helped. It is agony when I start to walk but after about five steps, the pain subsides a lot. The last time I had this was in 1998 when I was in hospital with a severe back ache which turned out to be a herniated disk. This first attack was cured by cortisone which reduced the swelling. I was wondering what caused this current attack since it obviously wasn’t a disk problem so I did a bit of research where various things were suggested that might cause the inflammation of the sciatic nerve. During this reading, I had one of those "Uh-Oh"moments becoming aware of when I {for absolutely no reason I can now remember} was wondering if I could bend over and touch the floor with my hands. I used to be able to actually lay the palms of my hands on the floor at one time but this time I could only touch the floor with my fingertips… It didn’t hurt at the time. Anyway, I have no one to blame but myself…
- I went to talk to the colonoscopy man and told him how much I hate the idea of doing the clean-out all alone by myself. All my previous preps not only caused what they were intended to cause but also had me vomiting at the same time which, as you can probably imagine, is NOT fun. He told me he is sending me a prescription for medication to be taken for the five days before the colonoscopy. He assured me I could eat normally and promised me that I would not be vomiting for those five days. The colonoscopy is at 7:30 PM on October 15th. This works out well for Jake being able to work, take me for the colonoscopy, wait for me to be through and bring me home!
- I am really enjoying using my new wireless headphones for the television. I think I mentioned that I always turned on Closed Captions before this? Well, now I don’t need to do that at all! Actually, I did once because the characters I was watching with the ROKU on Netflix had an English accent I had problems deciphering so the CC helped with that particular show.
- Since I have still some pain in walking, I am using a cane in the house which, under happier circumstances, I don’t usually do. The problem with this is that I keep putting the cane up in different places and then not being able to find it again! I have got myself pretty well trained when I come into the house from outside, to put the canes in a cane holder beside the front door but now I am using one in the house, I am inconsistent as to where I put it! This reminds me of my Auntie Babs who did not use a cane but did use a cigarette holder. Like me and my canes she tended to put the holder down wherever she finished the last cigarette and thus my sister and I who lived with her during the school holidays when we were in boarding school, were always roped in to find the holder since she wouldn’t smoke without it!
"Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." from the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew 6:34
Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?

If not me, then who?
If not now, then when?
I must use my cane in the house so I never mislay it. I’d be happy to not being able to find it if that meant I didn’t need it anymore. Anyway, how annoying for you. Didn’t you say that you have more than one cane? I saw one in an ad that I thought would be good for the times we go out. It stands upright by itself, no propping up leaning against something, also it folds up so it could be stored inyour purse. The last time we went to a restaurant I tripped a waitress with my cane. However, I don’t know how stable it is. It strikes me as a bit funny (in the amusing sense) that you had trouble understanding an English accent. I bought a British mystery series and while I loved it, I did have a spot of trouble understanding some of the dialogue. It was Pie in the Sky. Have you seen it? My daughter borrowed it, so I may not get it back. I would like to view it again, though.

If I have to use the cane in the house I keep it with me… but when I decide I don’t need it any more I tend to leave it hanging on whatever door handle was the closest at the time, and then I forget where I put it! The usual storage place is hanging from the DVD rack by the tv next to my shoes. (huggles)

My fingers have never gotten anywhere NEAR the floor even before I hurt my back, and I’m half your age! (huggles)

Just a dumb question, but are you chugging the prep the way the pharmacist tells you to? Apparently, this causes too much liquid to hit your stomach at once, and then you throw up (tidbit from the nurse practitioner at my GI’s office). The prescription is probably a good idea too. Good luck with everything…I’ve found making sure I’m hydrated days ahead of time helps my prep go more smoothly.

I’m kind of amused that YOU found it hard to decipher an English accent. LOL! Interesting information about sciatica and touching the floor. I can only get to the floor after I’ve warmed up with a few stretched. If I would do my yoga on a regular basis, it would be no problem.

What a strange time for your colonoscopy to be scheduled. My docs have always tried to do them early in the morning. Hmmm…. At least you won’t have to worry about the vomiting part! I do the same thing with my cane, I’m forever putting it down somewhere in the house and then forgetting where it is. They should have a locating buzzer on them! LOL Hugs,M

There are some siaciata exercises on You Tube that are very good, helped mine in just a short while. They are so great that I saved them and I’ll include them for you. I did these lying on the floor. Hope they help you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VMbpM7riZI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eR2fZE67ps&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFiLb6BJtG4&feature=related

I have to put things away just in the place where I put it away before — otherwise I would find nothing!
