Update on Kindle*
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that the bank cards which were supposed to get to the bank tomorrow actually arrived today! So, I went up there to pick them up and to make sure that I knew which one was my personal one and which one belonged to the household account. I must have got it right because I used the household one to pay for the stuff I picked up while I was there and it worked!
Around lunch time, my new Kindle 2 arrived. It was partly charged so I let it charge a bit longer before I took it outside into the sunshine, turned it on and flipped pages. And the text did not fade so I got a good one this time.
Next I had to go to Amazon to My Kindle Account to register it. It was there with my two other Kindles–one being Kindle 1 {now named "The First One"} and the other being the faulty Kindle. I first de-registered the faulty Kindle 2 because I wanted to use the same name for the new Kindle replacement. Then I registered the new Kindle and found I had to peer at a tiny number engraved on the back of the Kindle. This new Kindle was unimaginatively called "Patricia’s 2nd Kindle 2" which name I change to Serenity. Then I turned on the wireless in Serenity, went to "archived" and downloaded the book I had been reading before–the first one in Robin Hobb’s Fool Trilogy, and it opened at exactly the same page where I had stopped reading it on the other Kindle 2. Tomorrow I will pack up the faulty Kindle and take it to the UPS store. I have a prepaid label to return it.
In addition to the Kindle stuff, I also cleaned the bathroom really well and the kitchen floor in a lick-and-a-promise fashion.

trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change
your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to
correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working."

Wonderful! Everything worked out just great. I’ve been wondering if Fred decided to take you up on your offer of Kindle #1 and if so how he likes it.

Serenity was the name of first sailboat-guess what the moveup boat was? Yep! II, these Kindles are truly fascinating and a great little companion. The makers are all rushing to be our one tool. iPhone, netbook, Kindle, Blackberry, etc. I am usually an early adapter but am going to sit this one out. Be well and have fun…dan

So glad to hear about the service from Amazon for your Kindle II. I have Kindle I and love it. Recently it froze and I had to call for help; fyi, was told never to reset it without calling Amazon for directives, in case I do the wrong thing and lose all the books. I think Kindle II may not need this attention. Lots of improvements. I have four pages of books now and am hooked on my little first version.

ryn-Well, I don’t really “need” a Kindle. I would enjoy one, but the books cost so much. Hmmm, if I ever read through all the ones I have here, maybe someday. I AM intrigued by the Kindle. How many books do you have installed on yours now?

I want one. But I have to wait until they’re available here. Mope.

I just got my very first Kindle yesterday. I LOVE it. I didn’t know about the fading thing, so I will have to test it out this weekend to make sure that mine doesn’t have the problem.
