Twelve

Well, as I mentioned yesterday, I was trying to decide if I felt well enough to go to the book club meeting last night. I told Fred that I was going to stay home partly because I did really feel a little dizzy but, to be honest, mostly because I enjoy being home and didn’t really want to go out! Because Fred was thinking I was going out, he had fixed supper early which I had no problem with. So, I ate my meal and drank several large glasses of water. At about 6 pm, I was finished eating and felt much MUCH better. And my conscience started bothering me. Janis, the woman who runs the meeting, puts a lot of her time and effort into this so I decided to go after all since I felt so much better.

Last month, Janis and I were the only people who turned up, but we had almost everyone this time. I was particularly pleased to see Carol who didn’t come last month because her 100 year old mother was in hospital. Since her mother died right after that, I was able to tell her how sorry I was. This was not just a conventional expession of sadness because I had met her mother several times and really liked her. She was a fiesty take-no-nonsense woman and an excellent role model! Anyway, we had a really good meeting discussing Rebecca and Frenchman’s Creek.  O, one of our members who comes when she can since she had a stroke, was there and kept talking about the movie version of Rebecca and how much she loved Laurence Olivier.

Next month it is my choice which was "your favorite poet or poem." I am going to read, I think, a couple of poems by Phillip Larkin. Carol asked if we had to read the poem chosen aloud to which I replied, "Only if you want to. If you don’t, I will be happy to read it." And that is totally true. I really enjoy reading aloud. Part of it is being a teacher but part of it is also I know I do it well. And although I can take some credit for that, this ability is also due to the many elecution lessons I had when I was about 13-ish. I had a slight stammer and had quite a long series of what would now be called speech therapy. I prefer elecution lessons–it has a nice ring to it!

Hmmm, there is a little icon jumping up and down to get my attention in my dock at the bottom of the screen. Something feels it needs to be updated! I will check it and decide if I want it to update. Then, I will drink more water and get my Kindle and walk in the treadmill for 15 minutes and then give the bathroom and kitchen a good cleaning. Oh, the dog upstairs is barking! Maybe it is the mailperson with my pedometer…

Until later…

I would love to come to a meeting where everyone reads their favorite poetry! And I’d be perfectly happy to read EVERYONE’s selections, because like you, I LOVE reading poetry aloud! :o) !! Sometimes I just stay home cuz I love to be home, too. There’s a class tonight I had been planning to go to, but I decided (in view of what a busy weekend we had) to stay home instead. hugs, Weesprite

I’m glad you ended up going to your reading group. I’m getting so that I really look forward to mine. I don’t often read the book (no time), but I enjoy the company and the intellectual exchange.

It seems like you had a pretty good time last night. I am glad you made it out. 🙂

Poems are meant to be read aloud – often a few times in a row to get the impact.

It sounds like the meeting turned out very well. I’ve never read any du Maurier, but I always keep intending to.

I’m glad that you started feeling well enough to go to your book club. Also that you were able to give your condolences to your friend. (((Hugs)))

It’s good that you drink so much water! I must admit, I love reading, but I’m not keen on poetry!

RYN: Yes, but if I drew the slippers, I wouldn’t have got to draw his monkey feet.
