Tuesdaay Talk

Italian Phrase of the Day: La mia nonna mi ha lavorato a maglia una nuova sciapia. My grandmother knit me a new scarf.

My comment on this: No, non è la mia nonna. Faccio a maglia una nuova scapia con  un po’  fatto a mano filato compravo da Cinderella a Open Diary. No, it is not my grandmother. I am knitting a new scarf with some hand-made yarn I bought from Cinderella from Open Diary.

More snow here today but it does not seem to be coming down with the same enthusiasm it had yesterday. I saw our landlord out clearing the snow off his car this morning and all he had to do was to sweep it off. He didn’t have to scrape ice. I think I will go out later and take pictures of all this snow…

One week from today, I start back to Italian II. I am quite excited about this. I have been reviewing what we learned and also working some of the exercises in the new grammar book. I seem to have two big problems. First, I don’t have a big vocabulary and have to look up a lot of words and secondly, I MUST learn the verbs. It is not so much that I don’t know which verb to use {although that too} but that when I find the verb in the dictionary, I then have to laboriously work out in my mind what the subject of this verb is {I? you? they? we?} because there is a different ending for each pronoun….  And then, of course, there are the irregular verbs. Someday {uno di questi giorni}, with lots of practice, these things will come easily to me…

QUOTATION FOR THIS MONTH: If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. — Marcus Aurelius

Until later….

I took Spanish and Latin together in high school for two years and I can’t imagine doing Italian now. I remember conjugating verbs and how much fun (not) that it was. I have no doubt though that you will do wonderfully.

I’m horrible at conjugating verbs in Spanish. Still. And that’s after 8 years of taking it, plus a trip to Spain!

Thanks for the link information. I haven’t had a chance yet to try it out. That’s a skill I’ve wanted to learn for quite a while.

I used to take spanish in school only because my biological dad is mexican and wanted me to learn it, didn’t do too well though. We are expecting ice sometime today though not as bad as years prior. Take care and have a good day,

it’s gonna be very cold tomorrow morning and even colder thursday morning. with as much hard work that you put into learning italian, i’m sure you’ll have those verbs all worked out soon. take care,

I hated the conjugating. Maybe if I had practiced like you do I’d have gotten better at it.

I hope you show us the scarf when it’s done. 🙂

Don’t be to hard on yourself. My son has had four years of French and I have yet to hear him speak it around the house. He was very excited though when we walked into Paris Casino in L.V. and he could read all the signs. I thought it was cute.
