Today is Kindle Day!

My Kindle is supposed to arrive today. I am SO excited!

Gray Tabby asked me what is the first book I am going to put on it—well, it isn’t a book but a couple of magazines. The Kindle magazine section has both Analog and Asimiov’s. Both of these are science fiction magazines and both of them have a free 14 day trial. After that, each will be 2.99 a month for as long as I chose to take it. I used to read both of them in paper many years ago.

Another item of Kindle news I noticed this morning as I browsed is that books on the NYT best seller lists are available for 9.99 each. Also I know some books—maybe all? — have a "try this book" option whereby you can download a few chapters free and then buy the whole book if you like what you read. An annoying thing, however, about the Kindle bookstore’s site is that you can’t browse by author. However, apparently on the Kindle itself, you can type in the author’s name and thus see what has been  ummmm Kindlie-ized!

More Kindle stuff later as I learn how to use it  Segueing neatly on from the Kindle, I got an unexpected package from Amazon on Monday. Before I opened it , I thought  "Could it be…?"  But although Amazon is good, it isn’t that good! My surprise was something from my Amazon wish list from my older son and his wife for my upcoming birthday on the 15th.. Actually, I probably should say from Paula and my older son since she ordered it. It was two DVDs —the "Pirates of Penzance" and "ET’" and a book The Necessary Beggar by Susan Palwick.  This will be the first Palwick book I have. Two or three of her books are on my list because they came up on my front page recommendations and I browsed the first chapter and liked what I read… Hmmm, I wonder if her books are in the Kindle bookshop? {You can see where my mind id today, can’t you!}
Things I hope to get done today:

  • strip the bed and remake it.
  • clean the bathroom especially the floor.
  • walk a bit or ride my bike.

QUOTATIONS:

ryn: I do get mileage, and this month will be a heck of a pay off. I think I’m going to get about $180 back. I’ll have my iPod with me every day of testing, and will have it on in my office those mornings. Because I’m not going to stress out in here. As for the gym teacher… I’ve known all year she isn’t someone I need to hang around. Now I’ve just confirmed it.

Your mentioning Azimov, I used to work right around the corner from where he lived in New York. I used to encounter him often and it always seemed like I was the only one who recognized him. This being New York, nobody bothered him, which is why John Lennon could live there.

Wonderful! I want to hear all about how you like it. I hope it’s as good as they claim.
